Day 39 of the NHL lockout.  The  latest is the league turned down a request by the NHLPA for a meeting before tomorrow's deadline.  What the heck is wrong with Bettman.  The players are bending over backwards to get a deal done and he is turning his back on them.  If you ask me, Bettman is being an idiot right now.

I got some more hockey news to pass along.

The big news of the day is that the New York Islanders are suppose to announce that they will be moving the franchise to Brooklyn by the 2015-16 season.  I wonder how my next door neighbour (who is an Islander fan) feels about this one.

Columbus have hired John Davidson as the club's president of hockey operations.

The San Francisco Giants have announced their Game Two starter today.  It will be Madison Bumgarner.  Still no word on who will be pitching for the Tigers tonight in Game One of the World Series.

Finally, I watched some exhibition NBA action last night between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Chicago Bulls.  Bulls won 94-89.  Top scorer for the Thunder was Serge Ibaka with 24 pts and for the Bulls Carlos Boozer also with 24 pts.

Seeing the name Bumgarner always reminds me of the movie "Rookie of the Year" and the trouble the manager of the Chicago Cubs had pronouncing the young pitcher's name. Henry Rowengartner.

What is so special about Brooklyn? First the Nets and now the Islanders? Will they even keep the Islanders name?

This just keeps getting more and more ridiculous.......very sad for the players who are all pumped up and ready to go......and for the fans who are all pumped up and ready to watch.

To answer your question about whether the Islanders will keep their name is yes. They will continue to be the New York Islanders because Brooklyn is on Long Island, something i was not aware of.
