There is so much NASCAR history to be honored. I'm almost thinking they should have had a very large group of initial inductees. Maybe 50-70 or more. That would eliminate all the BS that's going on now. Hey, bring in the core group that made NASCAR from back in the day on the initial ballot. I think that would have been the cool thing to do. Then, we can go with those of the more modern era.

I agree Uncle Hubie. The NASCAR HOF was way overdue and a large initial induction class would have been more appropriate than the running joke we've been dealing with.

I sort of agree with there being a larger first time inductee group....but only 10 or 15.......but I do agree with the older stars of Nascar, who help build this sport, going in the HOF first.

The hall is struggling, financially. We've mostly agreed earlier on that an initial larger group would have a) broadened the fan attraction, and b) allowed for recognition of so many more early to the sport who are now gone and nearly forgotten.
It is this group of early years significant people that make me so extremely opposed to e nomination f active people **** childress and hendrick. It's about money as much as recognition.... nobody will by t-shirts for the stars of yesteryear, but a rusty Wallace HOF shirt will sell.

Part of NASCAR's problem is it was once just a regional sport, it didn't "make it" as a national sport until the late 80's early 90's. An even now you still have those who argue whether it is a sport or not.
So a lot of the early pioneers of the sport are generally unknown to the current fanbase. While there are a lot of good resources to do research on those pioneers, that would require the general public to do work.
I think it was Ned Jarrett who said NASCAR needs to hurry because soon there will be no one around who remembers the pioneers of the sport, and those who should be in the HoF will be lost to history.

Much as I think that getting the pioneers in first, is the best idea.........for the younger fans who will hopefully support HOF in years to come, some Current nominees has its merits......from the 2013 list, Childress and Hendricks were on it and in a fantasy wish list, I picked them.....they have been in Nascar a very long time (25 years +)......and while I agree that others are more deserving, a good mix of "now and then" isn't the worse thing to do.
However some of the "now" picks are very weak, such as Rusty Wallace.
Tha above might sound a bit contradictory....but my history side wants only older drivers, and my business side thinks a mix of new and old is better for business.

Unfortunately true. The NASCAR HOF was not ciceived so much to honor the sports legends as it is to line the France's pockets
