Is Austin Rivers ready for an NBA career?

Should of he stayed at Duke one more year?

Does his last name give him a leg up with Monty Williams, in other words is the coach more tolerant of his mistakes?

Those are hard questions, but I believe they're fair.

Austin Rivers looks lost when he fail in one of his -I want to be Jordan sprint to the basket- you can clearly see his body language is immature, let me explain what I mean, take a look at Anthony Davis when things doesn't go his way, It's different, Davis doesn't look like he is pouting, I can only describe it as Rivers is a kid being a kid and Davis is a kid who acts like a grown up.

Maybe one more year at Duke would have been good for Mr. Rivers, is not like he needs the money right away, I'm sure he lives a comfortable life.

Here are some stats from the first three games, he averages close to 30 minutes a game:

FG%:.200..... Ast: 3.3..... FG attempts: 8.3 per game..... FT%: 80%

I've noticed that when this kid gets frustrated he plays like there is no one else on the court, he is not looking for anybody, specially after something doesn't go his way.

In most cases the coach would put that player on the bench as a teaching moment, I'm not an expert, but my take as a fan is that Rivers is getting lots of passes.

Just saying.

The saddest part is that not only the Rivers friendly media (I assume it has to do with respect for Doc Rivers) but many blogs and commentators believe that Rivers will replace Greivis Vasquez when Eric Gordon comes back.

Are you kidding! Are this people serious!

What has Rivers done to deserve that?

Greivis Vasquez has been the player that leads the New Orleans Hornets, every time he's off the floor the team looks out of sync, you don't have to be an ESPN analyst or an NBA ex-jock to see that, it is very clear to those who watch the game.

Going back to last season the teams record has been positive when Vasquez starts as the point guard.

Here are some stats including ones for last year:

2011-2012 season with 20 minutes plus per game:

PPG: 8.9.....AST. 5.4.....RPG: 2.6

They only won 21 games and lost 42, of the 21 games won guess who was the starter in the majority of them? You guessed it, the team had a positive winning percentage when Vasquez was the starter and a negative when he didn't.

So far as the starter in the 2012-2013 season:

PPG: 13.....AST: 9.7.....RPG: 4.7

And had the winning shot in the game vs the Jazz. By the way the Hornets are 2-1 and in their only loss took San Antonio to the wire.

Austin Rivers will probably be a superstar, maybe even be better than Jordan, (I don't really believe that but..) but for now we should let Vasquez get a few years in the spotlight, he can lead this team, he has already proven that, his teammates like him, he is a total team player.

Remember this is the same guy who spanked Duke and North Carolina, he pounded them, those teams had some of the best guards in the country, by the way Vasquez was an ACC player of the year and the only player in the history of the ACC to have over 2000 points, 700 assist and 600 rebounds.

That ain't just whistling Dixie sister! Now is it?

Monty William should come out and say to the media Greivis Vasquez is his guy at point guard, period, that will certainly give the 26-year-old Vasquez confidence.

As always this is just a fans opinion and from what I understand everybody has one and I thank God for that.

Enough said.

I think it doesn't matter if he stayed on not. He played a bit selfishly at Duke so they should have known what they were getting. The rumors were that privately they were happy he was leaving cause they will always get blue chip recruits. Vasquez is the true point but Rivers has the name. He may turn out to be another me-first Magette. Well written blog. Thanks.

Thank you....I think those were fair questions to ask...
