Day 52 of the NHL lockout. Both sides resumed talks today. No word on how it went.
Meanwhile, there was Major Junior hockey on T.V. last night. The Russian-Selects beat the QMHL All-Stars 6-2. The two teams will face each other tomorrow night. Hopefully the All-stars will do a little bit better.
There has been a lot of hardware awarded in baseball within the past 48 hours.
We will start with the Wilson Defensive Awards first.
Rookie, Mike Trout won for the American League and Michael Bourn won for the National League. Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees also won the award.
The Players Choice Awards were also handed out.
No surprise, but Triple Crown winner, Miguel Cabrera won Outstanding Player in the American League and overall Player of the Year honors.
The players voted R.A. Dickey the National League Pitcher of the Year. David Price won American League Player of the Year.
The players voted Cincinnati's infielder, Todd Frazer the National League Rookie of the Year.
The players also voted San Francisco's catcher, Buster Posy Comeback Player of the Year.
The Kansas City chapter of the Baseball Writers Association has awarded the 2012 Bruce Rice Award, to Greg Holland. The award is given to the pitcher of the year for the Kansas City Royals. Congratulations to all the winners.
The Baltimore Orioles made a few promotions. Neil Aloise is now the vice president of ticketing and services. Greg Bader is now vice president of communication and marketing. Finally, Mike Hoppes is the vice president of finance.
