I would like to start the push to have Cole Hamels represented on the National League All  Star team.  Of course, if he keeps playing the way he has been playing, there won't be much of a push needed.

Hamels is beginning to look like the ace of the Phillies' rotation.  If Brett Myers is going to be the closer, then Hamels must be your ace.  With last night's impressive performance Hamels moved to 6-1, by far the most impressive on the Phillies and also tied for second most in all of Major League Baseball and tied for the lead in the National League.  His strikeouts just keep accumulating and are now at 70, one behind MLB leader Jake Peavy with 71.  He has only walked 17 batters and if the Phillies need some innings from the starter, Hamels will give you a good chance at that as well.

I've been anxious to watch Hamels pitch ever since he came up to the big leagues last season against the Reds.  He pitched five nearly flawless innings.  I believe he did not yield a run and had a handful of strikeouts.  He rarely gives a bad performance.  I also love how the camera will show Hamels listening intently to veteran pitcher Jaime Moyer in the Phillies dugout from time to time.  Moyer loves to talk baseball and pitching and it is great to see a young player adhering to the advice and lessons of a veteran like that.  Learning from the vets can only help your game and I would like to think that Moyer has helped Hamels along his way.

It's obviously way too early to be comparing Hamels to the likes of Hall of Famer left hander Steve Carlton, but I have visions that watching Hamels is going to bring happiness for a long time.  I really hope that Hamels turns out to be the real deal.

Hamels has been looking pretty impressive lately. He could definitley be a elite pitcher in the league someday.

I am SO with you on this one.

Last year, I was telling a buddy about Hamels before he made his ML debut, and I said 'Of all the left-handers who have come up and been heralded as the 'Next Tom Glavine' ... I haven't heard that about this guy Hamels yet. And you know what? He could be.'
