Give PJ whatever he wants. Admit defeat, get some boxes, pack up your things and find a new office, Jimmy.
He cleaned house, overlooked Brian Shaw and tapped the 'yes, sir', Mr. nice guy coach, Mike Brown and took Phil's then vacant office. Jim Buss wanted control and flexed just to prove that he was going to do things his way. The obvious replacement SHOULD have been Shaw in the first place being PJ's star pupil. But, now that's over with and he's made a mess. Please don't make another mistake.
Put your ego aside, call your sister Jeanie and plead with her to put Phil on.
The Lakers can't afford to take a chance on something that isn't a lock.
NEWS FLASH: Kobe is still aging.
I like D'Antoni, and he'd obviously get along with the players on the roster and all have grand conversation at dinner, but he isn't a good fit if the Lakers want to win unless he's planning on running a different system than he's done his entire career.. Unlikely. You want to take this Lakers team and run them?
What makes D'Antoni's offense work is having a young, healthy Amar'e Stoudemire, and then you get a Steve Nash (just to orchestrate here and there) a few other speed guys, don't forget your perimeter shooters and Voila??!!!! Mike D'Antoni offense! Remember Shaq's suicide drill days with the Suns?
The Lakers barely have a bench. What they do have is a starting five that may be ideal for the triangle offense. At this point in Steve Nash's career I think he's perfect for it and his body would certainly welcome it.
At Thanksgiving, Jerry should sit at one end, and at the other end, it's got to be Phil.
