As the last pass of Super Bowl XLII fell to the ground the only word I could come up with to describe the contest I had just witnessed was a simple "Wow." This game was by far, was one of the Best Championship games in any sports for a longtime.
Last night at around 10:20 PM saw the Giants finally slayed the jaggernaut that was the undefeated Patriots. The jaggernaut on the field no doubt was the Giants defensive line. It was amazing to look at Tom Brady, after getting hit and hit hard time after time looking like he had no answer. How much his injured ankle hurt is ability to throw the deep ball will be debated by fans and pundits alike for some time to come. Most of Brady's deep passes were weak at best. It is a wonder that the Giants did not intercept the ball more. To hold the Patriots one of the greatest offensive teams in league history to fourteen points is nothing short of amazing, and a great deal of credit should go to the Giants Defense.
How about the Giants Offense? Eli Manning looked as though he had been to this game before. It is ironic isn't that "Mr Guarantee" Plaxico Burress was the recipient of the games winning touchdown? Despite his injuries. He now joins Joe Namath in New York Sports History with his prediction.
How about the Game winning drive? How Eli got out of that possible sack and the throw the pass to continue the drive was simply amazing. The catch by David Tyree us just unbelieveable. Now to see Eli Manning on the list of Quaterbacks who are Super Bowl MVP's would be unthinkable after the Giants 0-2 start. I know brother Peyton is assuredly proud of his baby brother today.
Much will be said about what the Patriots did or did not do last night to assure a perfect season. Why did Coach Belichick go for it on Fourth Down? Why was Randy Moss essentially a Non-Factor?? Why did the Offensive line not give Tom Brady enough time to do his job? These questions and many other are being asked throughout the sports world.
I would hope that sports fans throughout the country appreciate what the Giants accomplished last night. It was pretty much believed that the Patriots would win and win going away. I predicted a close game but still a Patriots victory. However the Giants stood toe to toe with one of Pro Football's greatest teams ever. Eli Manning, Michael Strahan, and company delivered a knockout punch that even Rocky Balboa would be proud of.
Wow?? Wow Indeed.

One of the best championship games? For three quarters, the game was a snorefest. The game's final result is what is so memorable, not the game as a whole.

Why?? because the game was in doubt until the last minute of the game. The specttor of the Patriots taking over the momentum with just one play. Both teams flexed their defensive muscles through the first 3 quaters. Snorefest?? Not in my book. I wanted the Pats to earn their win not win in a blowout .

Could not agree more. With everything in the league tilted towards the offense today, it was great to see a defensively dominated game. Just too bad the general "give me more" population can't appreciate it.
As a Pats fan, I tip my hat to the Giants. Only a couple of calls that really got me pissed (Mannings fumble recovered by Pats & not whistled and the off. pass interference/hands to the face by Toomer), other than that looked like a very clean and well played game. The better team that night won. I think the Pats beat them 7 out of 10 tries, but last night they were definitely bested.
