I know Johnny "Football" Manziel the impressive red-shirt freshman QB from Texas A&M is the popular pick for this year's Heisman for most people. But why not Manti Te'o the stud Linebacker from #1 ranked Notre Dame? Manti has just finished his final regular season game by clinching a spot in the National Championship game against USC, orchestrating an impressive goal line stand to keep the USC offense out of the end zone late in the 4th quarter. He finished his senior year with 103 tackles, 2 sacks, and 7 interceptions. But more importantly he has been the leader of one of the best defenses in the country, a potential National Champion, and surefire top NFL draft pick. Sure Johnny "Football" has been fun and exciting to watch, and probably the best offensive player in the country, but I believe Manti is the better overall player currently. In Texas A&M's 2 losses this year Johnny was a combined 52-86 (60.5%) for 449 yards with 0 TDs and 3 INTs, with 34 rushing attempts for 87 yards and 1 TD. He may have passed Cam Newton and Tim Tebow's mark for most overall yards in a season in the SEC, but in those 2 losses Johnny wasn't playing like a Heisman winner. Those were the only 2 games this season Johnny didn't throw a TD pass, and while he played great in the other 10, Manti played great in all 12 games this year and his team hasn't lost a game yet. I think it is time for a defensive player to win the Heisman trophy, the offensive skill players had their time and fun. Johnny "Football" will get his chance to win the Heisman in the upcoming years, but this current season's Heisman belongs to Manti Te'o.

Manziel's accolades mainly stem from one game, A&M vs. Alabama. The player who had the best season, counting every game is Marquise Lee. He should, but won't win, the Heisman.
