Although I agree that the choice should have a "happy" ending, I believe SI missed the boat completely on this. The OBVIOUS choice is Lance Armstrong (Think TIME magazine, and it's choice of Adolf Hitler as "Man of the Year"), and his DEVASTATING fall from grace. The BIGGEST scandal in sports history, by one of it's biggest stars. Then again, I wouldn't expect SI to have the guts to choose a past recipient of this award, who had fooled so many people....including Sports Illustrated.

Would have been a better choice than MeBron. Yes, I know he won a championship, but other than that I don't see any redeeming qualities that should garner James the Sportsman of the Year.

I could name ten better choices than LeBron.

Not having any clue as to what the criteria is to be named the SI Sportsman of the Year, I would wish that somewhere along the line it's more than just someone who does his job well. How about good works outside of the particular sport? I mean, the person is already making ridiculous amounts of money let's see if he can put it where his mouth is.
