Day 81 of the NHL lockout. Apparently, there was some progress made in yesterday's players/owners meeting. 18 players, including superstar, Sidney Crosby and six owners met for several hours in New York. The NHL Board of Governors met this morning in what was described as a information session. After the session, NHL Commissioner, Gary Bettman addressed the media briefly, saying he was pleased with the progress. The two sides met again at approximately 2:15 p.m. today. If you want more information about the latest labour talks, go to Isportsweb.com and read my latest article. I write under my given name. The article is titled National Hockey League: Labour talks update. There was an OHL game on last night. Guelph defeated Kitchener 3-2 in a shoot-out. Now to some baseball and there's lot's of it. Jason Bay has signed a one-year contract with Seattle. Arizona has signed Eric Chavez and Will Nieves to one-year contracts. MLB.com is reporting that Baltimore has signed Nate McLouth to a one-year contract. San Francisco has signed Marco Scutaro to a three-year, $20 million contract. Colorado has acquired Wilton Lopez, a player to be named or cash from Houston last night for Alex White and Minor Leaguer Alex Gillingham. Meanwhile, Boston continues to boost their offence by signing slugger, Shane Victorino to a three-year contract. Texas has signed Joakin Soria to a two-year, $8 million contract. Finally, in golf, Rory McIlroy was named PGA Player of the Year. No surprise here after the year he had. Congratulations Rory!
