I was at the rink the other night at a CHL minor league hockey game and got to thinking these guys have got to really love what they are doing. Most of these young men are out of college or been release in junior hockey.
The travel is brutal maybe playing at home tonight and getting on a team bus and traveling 500 miles to another city to play the next night. I hope for your sake that you are not very hungry on these trips because the meal money is $31 a day. The biggest part of the time you are playing on bad ice and in front of maybe 2000 fans.
When pay day finally arrives most of the players make less than $400 a week. The team does provide housing, utilities, and cable services to players at no charge. When it is all said and done these men know down deep they will never see the bright lights, full buildings, and the money the NHL players make. So they will keep on playing, keep on making long bus rides, because of love of the game .
