My day began with a taunting text message from a Giants fan, a phone call from another and an instant message of consolation from a non-Giants fan, but for the most part it wasn't that bad.  It hardly compared to the day in 2003 when I was working in New York and I had to endure an endless line of Yankees fans waiting to wish me well after game 7 of the ALCS.  THAT my friends, was hell.

Well guess what?  The sun continued to shine, the world continued to spin on it's axis and the seconds, minutes and hours continued to move forward on the clock and life goes on.

I have to say the loss affected me more as the day went on than in the immediate aftermath of Sunday night and Monday morning.  The more I had time to dwell on it, the more I thought of that final Giants drive and all the things that went right for the Giants.  This is my third post since the game ended and I can't stop thinking about that incredible catch by David Tyree.   I watched it over and over again yesterday and each time I wait to see that ball to slip out of his hand, to squirt off his helmet and fall harmlessly to the ground.  And each time, Tyree unbelievably comes down with the ball.

Was there a more unlikely hero than Tyree?  In addition to his life altering catch, the man who had four (YES FOUR) total receptions in the regular season had three in the Super Bowl, including a touchdown.  This isn't the wideout you expected would inflict unbearable pain on Patriots Nation.  In fact, I'd be surprised if the Pats even paid much attention to him in their pre-game preparations.

Pats fans have been second guessing Belichick's choice to go for it on 4th and 13 rather than try a 48 yard field goal in the third quarter.  I can't help but think that this would have been a no-brainer had Adam Vinitieri been the kicker.  Now Vinitieri's been gone for two years, so it's a moot point.  But given the decision, you've got to wonder how much faith coach Bill has in Stephen Gostkowski.

It is said that time heals all wounds and time and distance WILL lessen this one as well.  Winter will turn to spring (the unofficial first day of spring occurs next week in Fort Myers by the way), spring will turn to summer and our thoughts will turn to other things and before you know it, the team will regroup for two-a-days under the brutal July sun and another shot at glory.  But I can't help but think I'll forever be wondering "what if" in regards to this game and especially that catch by Tyree.

I agree. Its a game.
I got some really nice FM's from Cowboys, Eagles, Redskins, Colts, and many other fans.
The Giants deserved to win,
Congrats to them and their fans

Nice blog, man. I was there last year when my Bears laid an egg in the 4th quarter of the Superbowl and gave the game away.

But all of us who gathered to watch the Bears in the Superbowl agreed that the best team won, and it was a good thing to see Peyton Manning finally get his Superbowl ring and MVP honors to boot.

Speaking of which, what do you think about Eli getting MVP? I think it's a shame it didn't go to someone on that D-line. The Giants D won that game for them, no question.

As a Packer fan, I KIND OF know how you feel. I was really bumbed, but I quickly got over it because the fact is.. the Giants beat the Bucs, the 'Boys, and the Pack all on the road.. all in different weather. I figured they deserved it. They were the better team that day. I watched the SuperBowl and that game really came down to time management. Doesn't that game remind anyone else of the 20-19 win by the underdog Giants over the powerhouse Bills? Time management.

The game was great, there's no doubt with one call switched Patriots win that game. GL next year.

Couple of things. First, my brain has rationalized the Giants' win on that 1 in a million Tyree catch better than if they had won on bad refereeing ,or say Eli scoring a jillion points on us, because the Patriots have won many, many games on similar miracle plays. Maybe not in the Super Bowl, but certainly to get us there, ESPECIALLY in 2001. And Rodney was all over the guy like the plague. (Catching it with his helmet??? Come on!!!)

We too have been the victims of plenty of hootin' and hollerin' by gloating giants fans and even from friends who are seattle fans!

Regarding going for it on 4th and 13, I really don't think it was under-confidence in Gostkowski, I think Belichick was OVER-confident in Brady and the offense to get the touchdown. 7 points is always better than 3 and with our offense, we've scored dozens of times in that situation.

Can't wait 'till next year...the drama continues...
