With the Big East looking more unstable by the minute, UConn and Cincinnati have made it widely known that the two schools want out of their disappearing conference.
Unless Maryland is able to exit the ACC without dropping $50M, the ACC looks to be gaining stability with the (for football) addition of Louisville that appeases the likes of vital members Florida State and Clemson, which ultimately makes the Huskies and Bearcats prospects of joining the ACC more and more unlikely.
Big 12 sources have stated numerous times that they will not expand to 12 members unless the prospective members add worth to the conferences TV package.
However, if research done within the conference suggests that the Huskies and Bearcats would increase TV revenue by bringing in a section of the New York market and a top 40 market in Cincinnati, would UConn and UC fans support a move to the Big 12?
The Huskies would be the apparent geographic outlier of the big 12, but at least they would be in relative proximity to their former Big East rivals, West Virginia and Cincy.
The schools' basketball teams and smaller sports would have to travel more, especially UConn, but traveling for football wouldn't be much different from the new Big East that may have them traveling to California, Texas, and Idaho.
I just recently thought about this senario and I'm curious to read what actual UConn and Cincy fans think of such a move.
