Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
Super Bowl XLII Halftime Show
Sunday February 3, 2008
As all of you who don't live under a rock know, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers were the halftime entertainment at this year's Super Bowl. Obviously, with the humangormous upset by the New York Giants over the undefeated Patriots, the micro-concert by Petty didn't get much attention (not that it would have anyway).
But I'm here to give credit where credit is due.
Petty, with his trademark long blond hair and newly fashioned mountain man beard, played an excellent show for all 9 Americans who weren't in the bathroom/kitchen/phone/Playstation between halves. I know I was the only one at the party I was at that was watching it.
Everything was crisp, smooth and well executed from Petty and his Heartbreakers. Everything from the giant arrow piercing the heart-shaped stage to the lights to the timed fireworks to the Guitar Hero-style backdrop was flawless.
The song lineup was typical of Petty, looking like this:
1. American Girl
2. I Won't Back Down
3. Free Falling
I don't know about you, but I had "Free Falling" running through my head for 24 straight hours following the Super Bowl. Not that that's a bad thing; It just goes to show that his show was pretty good.
What did you guys think?
