Meanwhile, there was hockey action els ewhere. I was not that impressed with Team Canada's performance at the World Junior Championship in Russia yesterday morning. Despite the 6-3 win over Slovakia, Canada was not at their best until the end of the second period and the entire third period. They played absolutely terrible during the first period. As a result, Slovakia had a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission. What made it worse, Canada got two major penalties during the game. J.C Lipon of Canada got a one game suspension for a head shot. Top point getters for Canada: Morgan Rielly three points (1 goal, 2 assists), Ryan Strome two goals, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins two points (1 goal, 1 assist), Mark Schiefele two points (1 goal, 1 assist), and Xavier Oullet two assists. Slovakia: Marko Dano two goals and Tomas Mikus two points (1 goal, 1 assist). Canada faces the United States next. In Spengler Cup action, Davos (Switzerland) defeated Alder Mannheim (Germany) 6-3. Last night, there was AHL and OHL action. In the AHL, the Hamilton Bulldogs defeated St. John's 6-3. Gabriel Dumont of Hamilton got a hat-trick and two assists. Stefan Chaput tallied two assists for the Bulldogs. Jason Jaffray scored two goals for the Ice Caps. In the OHL, Oshawa edged Mississauga 4-3.
