Is Steve Kerr Dumb Enough to Trade for Shaq? | From the Podium

Why on earth would any team, especially one who is at the top of the western conference, want to get rid of a star like Shawn Marion only to get an over the hill, slow, constantly injurred Shaq, who has a longer and more expensive contract? If Shaq continues to play another two seasons, his ability is going to decline even more rapidly than it already has. If the Suns truly need to trade Shawn Marion before the deadline because he wants out that badly, Kerr should find a better offer, one that doesn't include Shaq. He's Miami's problem. Why would you want to make your team worse and acquire a guy you'll be praying retires as soon as he's in your line-up? Lots of teams are looking to make a deal before the deadline to keep pace with the Lakers so for God's sake Steve Kerr, don't trade for Shaq. If you do it will go down as one of the dumbest moves in recent history. That's up there with John Paxson not making the Kobe Bryant trade happen by refusing to negotiate. The Lakers are laughing at him now, and if Kerr trades for Shaq the Heat will have reason to finally laugh again at someone else's expense.

OMG the Suns have agreed to the trade pending a physical. What a whirlwind change of events. I guess Mike D'Antoni believes it can work, but I disagree. The Suns now have to change their entire offense. You know what, Phoenix wouldn't have made it to the NBA Finals this year before this trade and I think in the back of their minds they knew it and decided to try a huge gamble instead. Now the NBA is the big winner with a potential Suns-Lakers series in the playoffs.

There's 3 weeks before the trade deadline, I can't imagine this is the best he can get for Marion. It sounds odd saying that given Shaq is who they'd get in return, but Shaq is a shell of his former self at this stage of his career.

Or, that Kerr and the Suns are so panicked by the Lakers trade for Gasol that they'd have such a knee jerk reaction.

But, given it seems like a done deal assuming Shaq passes the physical, Kerr MUST be that stupid.

By the way, passing the physical is a big "if". Suns are in big trouble if he doesn't, as Marion could poison that locker room very quickly after getting so close to getting his wish of leaving PHX only to be denied.

SUNS deserve SHAQ for being this stupid in even conjuring this one sided deal. How lucky can this guy wade get? after seeing his horizon become gloomier w/ each passing year of Shaq's monstrous contract, this burden is suddenly lifted. Stern must LOVE him so much.

your guys disrespect shaq but marion is no match for duncan, gasol, and etc that's why they needed a second option and the fast team style of de antoni needs to change it has not worked for 3 years now it needs a change and that change is now getting shaq. Shaq doesn't need to do anything they just needed shaq for his rebounding and blocking avility and so stoudomire can more damage than before. Kerr may looked stupid now to you guys but when the season and the playoff are done will see who's goin to have the last laugh.
