I'm taking it to the high school hardwood today. Also the County Jury. Those two don't really, go together, I know, but this story does.
It's about my local high school team's former star and shooting guard. We made it to the state tournament with only two losses- undefeated in-state, ranked 15th nationally, beat #1 Huntington, and we, of course, made it to the state championship.
Bud Mackey, the shooting guard, had been shooting the lights out. And penetrating. And doing just about everything else that you can do with a basketball. I had nose bleed sections at Rupp Arena in the championship game against Ballard. We had it won at the begginning of the fourth quarter, and I kept on hearing Bud Mackey's name being called. Every other second(not literally) his name was called. "Bud Mackey, two points.........Bud Mackey, three points." I thought to myself, man, this guy is awesome! Of course, he won the MVP Award for the State Tournament. But, oh buy, was our county in for a shocker!
At the start of the next year, Bud was found with some marijuana in his locker. Shock went throughout the county. Our beloved Bud Mackey was on crack! We were horrified. People started calling him names like "Bud Crackey". It was horrible. Personally, I think he was just selling it to make some quick money, but I don't have a say in court.
Just recently, he was indicted in court. He has already commited to Indiana, but I don't know if Indiana has decided to stay away from a convict or not, but I wouldn't stay away from him. I have spoken to some people who were his frieds, and they said that he was a really nice and pure person. That he just made one mistake. So, my question to you is: Is Bud Mackey a hero to our county for his basketball success, or a disgrace? Your call.
