If you're a hockey fan, you undoubtablly heard the name Dion Phaneuf mentioned at least once or twice.  In case you haven't he is a sophmore Defenseman for the Calgary Flames.  After being a Top 10 draft choice, he was said to be a big time upper for the Calgary D.  He made his run in the minors, played for Team Canada and quickly made it to the bigs.  Now after only a few years in the NHL, he is the most feared open ice checker in the league.  What often goes overlooked becuase of his hitting ability is his power slap shot from the point that meets the back of the net so often.  Finishing up the 2006-2007 reagular season, Phaneuf had 17 goals, 33 assists, with a +10 and 98 PIM.  Also goes overlooked is his defensive ability.  With lots of blocked shots and good positioning, Big D  rarely allows a forward to get behind him to challenge Kipper.  Also, because this is hockey, Dion knows how to fight and fight good.  Now he is no Georges Laraque and doesn't claim to be but when the gloves need to come off, D.P. does it without any hesitation.  He is the first to come to the aid of a teammate, takes no crap from big guys or superstars and allows no one to mess with his goalie.  He sees time on the power play and can kill penalties with the best of 'em.  I think that covers just about everything needed to be a future leader.
