For years I have rooted the underdog; the mid-major who puts together the fantastic NCAA Tournament run to gain glory and respect. Watching Gonzaga through the years or even Memphis today in college basketball is a thrill, and no game will ever compete with Boise State beating Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl in my opinion. I recall following the 1999 Miami ReHawks run to the Sweet 16, Kent State's 2002 run to the Elite 8 and George Mason's Final Four appearance in 2006, and I thoroughly enjoyed each team's tournament success.
While browsing the Internet today I came across an interesting article. The Blueprint for Mid-Major Success it was called. While mentioning St. Mary's & Drake, two of 2008's college basketball darlings, the article takes a deeper look at what it takes to succeed as a mid-major. From continuity of the program to having the right people in the right program, this proves to be a good read from Eddie Griffin.
