Greg Jennings is a Viking. Dustin Keller is a Dolphin and the Patriots signed some players that will really help their team. But The Stack isn't here to talk NFL free agency today. No, with Selection Sunday a day away, there are plenty of conference tournament championships up for grabs and The Stack is here to predict some winners so let's get right to it and see what's in a special edition of "the stack" for today, Saturday, March 16:
America East championship prediction
It's #2 Vermont versus #4 Albany in the America East championship. Nope, not number one seed Stony Brook who lately seems to keep getting bounced out of the America East tournament despite being the best team during the regular season. Vermont has had way more success in this type of situation than Albany so therefore I'll take...
Pick: Vermont
Big 12 championship prediction
It's an all Kansas affair in the Big 12 championship (just like it was an all South Dakota affair in the women's Summit League final). Kansas really starts to look like a team that has found their grove after a bit of a rough stint in the middle of the season. Kansas State was blown out the last time they played the Jayhawks. Won't be a blowout, but th "L" will be the same.
Pick: Kansas
Big East championship prediction
The final Big East championship as it is currently constructed is tonight at MSG and Syracuse has prolonged their stay. Most Big East fans most likely do not want to see Syracuse leave with the championship. Count Louisville as one of them. This team is playing some of its best ball of the season. They look like a legit title contender. They'll win their second consecutive Big East title first.
Pick: Louisville
Big Sky championship prediction
Top two teams meet in the Big Sky championship. Montana (one seed) against Weber State (two seed). Montana has been the best team in the conference all year. No reason to go against them now.
Pick: Montana
Big West championship prediction
With top seed Long Beach State going down, Pacific is now the team to beat in the final. UC Irvine will try to not let that happen. Should be a good game, but I'll take...
Pick: Pacific
Conference USA championship prediction
This is Southern Mississippi's chance. They can increase their chances incredibly with a win against top seeded Memphis in the final. It's not going to be easy though. Southern Miss perhaps has more at stake and they'll play a little hungrier, but Memphis is more talented. I do want to take Southern Miss though.
Pick: Memphis
MAC championship prediction
Top seed Akron didn't look all that great last night while Ohio, the two seed, did. Big question...if Ohio wins, does Akron deserve to get an at large spot? I would say yes, but then again, there are a lot of deserving teams or at least teams in the discussion with about the same resume as Akron. The MAC championship will be a good one.
Pick: Ohio
MEAC championship prediction
Top four seeds bowed out of the tournament right away, something you rarely see. So it's five seed Morgan State against seven seed North Carolina A&T. I'd like to see A&T win, but I don't think they will.
Pick: Morgan State
MWC championship prediction
New Mexico is the best team in the Mountain West. UNLV is good, but they are not nearly as good as this Lobos squad.
Pick: New Mexico
Pac-12 championship prediction
Top seed UCLA squeeked by Arizona while Oregon breezed by Utah. UCLA is playing some of their best ball of the season, but Oregon will test them. This championship game promises to be a good one.
Pick: UCLA
Southland championship prediction
Don't know why, but I think number two seed Northwestern State can pull off the upset on top seed Stephen F. Austin though the Lumberjacks are a very solid squad who could give a few teams fits in the NCAA tournament (though they will lose). I'll go with my gut though it is usually wrong.
Pick: Northwestern State
SWAC championship prediction
Southern, the top seed, should have little trouble getting by the four seed Prairie View A&M in the SWAC final. Too bad that will probably mean a play-in game awaits them.
Pick: Southern
WAC championship prediction
The WAC tournament has been WACky. Punny, I know. New Mexico State doesn't want New Mexico to be the only team from the state to make the NCAA tournament so they'll take care of business against UT-Arlington.
Pick: NMSU
It will be an awesome day of championship basketball. Enjoy it everyone.
