NASCAR CUP

Well, we so 'hot thing' Danica is burning up the track once again in qualifying over there in Fontana. What was it, just three cars slower than she was? That seems just teeny-weeny bit embarrassing no matter how you choose to twist it. And, heaven forbid, even a couple SPEED announcers had to finally fess up and said she needs to show what she's got. Oh, wait. Don't take it that way. You know, I mean, on the track.

She's got a full + season in Nationwide with one of the better cars and teams and some CUP starts scattered here and fro. Now shes bought her CUP ride with GoDaddy shelling out the big "green" ones and still in a great car. It's now time to drive the damn race car or go back to waiting tables and fiddling with her hair or whatever she used to do.

IndyCar

Total different story over here folks, especially for Simona de Selvistro. At long last she's got a decent ride and crew in KV Racing and she's partnered with Tony Kanan. Unlike way over there in California where the "silver" spoon lady was lucky to make the filed, SImona put her new car in third place - inside second row! My hat goes off to her and heres hoping she has a good finish - she's earned it.

And how about that rookie kid Tristan Vautier? He turned some heads in his first IndyCar start. I believe there's going to be some eyes on him. Never in any of my racing days would I have paired AJ Foyt with Takuma Sato, but there they are on the outside front row will Will Power. And a good qualifying time for the "Mayor" of Hinchtown as well...

FORMULA 1

Yes. It's hard to believe. Sebastian Vettel won another pole position. How many Malaysian poles is that now? Had hopes of Rosberg edging out teammate Hamilton but it didn't happen. Sutil cracked the top ten which showed well of him and Perez was only .2 off Button in his McLaren. I would think if Maldonado wants to keep his ride with Williams-Renault he better just shut up and drive the damn car. I would love to see the "Ice Man" put another one to them.

If I HAD A Wish

This would be the results for the weekend that would thrill me: FORMULA 1 - Kimi, Weber, Alonso; IndyCar - Sato, Simona, Vautier; Nationwide - KyB crashes, "Nationwide Kids" battle to the finish - Larson, Bayne and Hornish; CUP - Anyone except KyB, Hamlin and Edwards (well, except for the one with the "silver" spoon).

That's my take now lets see how things pan out.

CUP:
For sure Danica is a disappointment so far........some people think she will be MPD this year.......but if she continues qualifying and running in the back, then she will be mentioned less and I do not see her being voted that at all........I wonder how long her and Stenhouse will last (not really) as he continues to run well like he has been doing......this guy shows talent almost immediately.......that usually indicates a future star driver.....Danica with all her top notch options is showing she is lacking in same.

INDY CAR:
I am about to watch the Indy Car race in a few minutes....I will be watching for Simona......I look forward to being pleasantly surprised......anyone that tries hard and shows some talent impresses me.....Hinchcliffe qualified 4th and one of my favs Helio Qualified 5th.....hope they both do well

F1:
I was glad to hear that Vettel won another pole.....as stated before, I don't have time to watch all racing formats.....but I am familiar with some of the F1 drivers and Vettel is one of them.

NW:
Kyle did bring home another win for Gibbs in the 54 (owned by Gibbs & Kyle)....Hornish was 2nd after fighting for the lead several times with Kyle.......Regan Smith was 3rd........I like this driver and hope he gets back into the Cup next year....he was doing very well in his part time Cup runs last year.......Kligerman came in 4th in the #77 (owned by Kyle Busch).....Austin Dillon was 5th and that Larson firecracker came in 6th.....so of the top 6, 5 were "NW kids"....I hate it when the top finishes are all taken by Cup drivers (even though I understand the need to have them in NW races).

I can only partially understand NASCAR allowing full-time CUP drivers in NW - It's called "butts in the bleachers." I agree with the concept of putting people in the stands but not in the slightest regarding CUP drivers to dominate. CUP drivers can no longer steal the points but they certainly rape the purse money from regular Nationwide teams.

As more CUP drivers started running NW races and CUP teams started developing CUP "level" cars in that series and using CUP level "over-the-wall" members the costs of running even a top 20 Nationwide teams has soared out of control and out of reach for many of the smaller teams hoping to get their feet wet.

I have a ton to say about this, not that anyone wants to or will read it is another story.

A couple of question to set a single point: 1) In IndyCar you have the Indy Lights - it has one purpose - develop future talent for IndyCar. Have you seen Dario, Power, Dixon drop 'down' in class just to show how big their '****' is? Support for the series comes from Indycar, it's in their best interest. 2) In Formula One you have GP2 - same exact deal - no even mid-level F1 driver would consider running a GP2 event.

That, in my perspective is exactly where NASCAR has missed the boat. I have a whole Blog on this I've been working on for quite some time. Guess I need to bite the bullet and finish it off. If for no other reason (the same as the CUP drivers) "For my own pleasure."

Cup drivers in the NW is a complicated situation.......I rarely paid any attention to the NW, unless one of my fav Cup drivers was in it..........Now I have fav NW drivers and I enjoy those races even when there are no cup drivers in it..........so that made me a fan........I totally support the no points deal, but you make a very good point about "stealing the purse money" and also about Indy car drivers not dropping down.
I see pros and cons to cup drivers being in NW.....I will go into those more at another time.
