AFTER THE DUST SETTLES

It's only after everyone has had their say that I like to add my two cents. NOTE: This is not a race report. I t's just the thoughts of an old "ex" race driver and racing magazine editor.

IndyCar Tacumo Sato, according to some, drove the 'perfect' race. I'll say this, "It was close enough to perfect for me." He drove with uncanny precision on one of the most difficult street courses in the world and never faltered to take the convincing win: A win AJ Foyt has been in quest of for more than 10 years.

I had the privilege of attending the first Long Beach Grand Prix in 1975 which was a Formula 5000 event. My magazine, FORMULA Magazine, did extensive coverage of the inaugural event complete with personal interviews of Dan Gurney and Chris Pook. The pre-race interview with Dan and Chris still thrives vividly in my feeble mind - "Oh the stories I could tell" - From some guy giving Dan the 'finger' for cutting him off on the freeway to Chris trying to get me to order "sweetbreads" for lunch. I passed.

NASCAR CUP If you don't get it by now then there is no hope for you. Joe Gibbs, the leader of "team whine" finally saw the writing on the wall. He needed another Bobby Labonte instead of three whining children. His passing off Logano to Penske and brought in a real, mature race car driver named Matt Kenseth, has provided dividends. Matt is driving way above the other two "team whine" drivers - KyB and and that guy that can't close, wait, wait, it's coming to me, oh yes, Denny Hamlin.

Please, don't make me puke. Danica Patrick - the "Queen" of the "buy a ride" showed she has nothing, nothing. Crap, I can drive around the track - which is about all she does.

In my opinion Danica has about the same level of credibility as Barrack Hussein Obama. Neither have the necessary experience or skill to get the job done.

Most Stupid Question On TV" When will Danica win her first race and at what track?" And D. Waltrip is incapable of answering the question truthfully.

IndyCar: Agree with Sato driving a good race.

Nascar/Gibbs:I was shocked when Matt switched teams and car make......but I got used to it and knew that if was a good move for Gibbs.......I was hoping that it would also be good for Matt....and it has........Logano was showing signs of being immature, arrogant and full of himself.....he needed to go......maybe Penske can tone him down a bit.

Danica: she is driving like she normally does.......below mediocre.......and her CC had to calm her down and tell her to focus and not take out Gilliland........she should not have to be told to focus, when she is running 26th to 30th.....I would love to see her do well.....but I don't think she can.

DW: annoying as he can be, even he has toned down his overly bubbly blah blah blah dribble about Danica.

UncleHubie......your way with words, often makes me laugh......in a good way......you are very expressive and down to earth.......I really enjoy your blogs.

Anymore any comment from DW is a stupid comment, that is the major reason why I listen to the race on the radio instead of the TV.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Kenseth come Chase time. JGR typically doesn't do well in the Chase, and it looks like this year we will see if that issue is driver based, or if it is team based.

I'm hoping it is not the driver....I have a feeling Matt will rock it this year......if not Champ, then 2nd at least.....he has already won 2 out of 8 races......not a bad start.

Matt still has a lot of good runnin in him, regardless of what he is driving. He seems to have gotten new steam under him with a new team.
DW is an idiot, an annoying idiot.
As for Danica, they should just leave her alone and let her drive and quit buildin her up to be somethin she is not.
I missed the IndyCar race, again. Just not enough time for it all.

Well not to rain on anyone's parade....well maybe JJ's, but how many drivers have been leading the points going into the Chase and have actually won? We have seen plenty of drivers over the years have hot streak through the season (Harvick, Edwards, Kyle Busch) only to end up not winning the championship sometimes because of driver meltdown, some from team melt down, and some just plain back luck. So while Kenseth is hot now that doesn't mean it's going to translate into a good Chase run.

Agree.......Kenseth is not leading in the points, he's currently 8th.......but being hot right now does not guarantee that he will drop the ball in the chase either.........I wish him the best of luck all season.

Holy cow....I just might have to eat my words.......made above comment before I read about Kenseth's big penalty mess.

Yeah I just heard about it myself. It will be interesting to see what comes out from the appeal. If TDR shipped them the engine with the understanding Gibbs can't change anything on it, then what could Gibbs have done. Thus is the problem with not building your own equipment!

My comment was just to show the biggest problem with the Chase format, it penalizes the points leader at the reset. Tony Stewart's tear to the championship in 2011 was a fluke, while the "regular season" points leader floundering is becoming common place.

I've noticed that too. The wins count for more and that's good but the reset has always annoyed me.
I cannot believe how harsh the penalties for Gibbs/Kenseth were.ridiculous for a small underweight problem.and it was the Toyota's fault.

I have a feeling Toyoda will cover the financial penalties, especially since they have taken full responsibility for the issue, but there is nothing they can do about the point losses or the suspension as far as we know. I look for across the board appeals (Kenseth's CC Jason Radcliff has already started his) and then it is up in the air what happens from there.
