Chris Broussard comments on Jason Collins announcement of being a gay man:
"Personally, I don't believe that you can live an openly homosexual lifestyle or an openly premarital sex between heterosexuals, if you're openly living that type of lifestyle, then the Bible says you know them by their fruits, it says that's a sin. If you're openly living in unrepentant sin, whatever it may be, not just homosexuality, adultery, fornication, premarital sex between heterosexuals, whatever it may be, I believe that's walking in open rebellion to God and to Jesus Christ. I would not characterize that person as a Christian because I do not think the Bible would characterize them as a Christian."
Fair enough comment, but just as Mr. Broussard made a choice of conscience guided by his religious believe, I as a fan and a Latino also must make a conscious decision to emphatically disagree with him and maybe no longer watch him on ESPN.
It's nothing personal, I always have enjoyed listening to Mr. Broussard, but as an older minority who has lived his life witnessing bigotry and exclusion- up front and personal - I have developed a weak stomach for any kind of racism, against anybody, for any reason, specially when is hiding behind religion.
History tells us that this is nothing new. It was not that long ago that some churches believed the bible prohibited marriage between black folks and white folks, turns out that it wasn't true, religion also found a way to justify slavery but now we all can agree that owning another human being is totally unacceptable.
Please correct me if that isn't a true statement.
Even though it might not of been his intention, Mr. Broussard came off as the judge and jury of this courageous man. Religion as I understand does not give anyone the right to judge others, we should leave that kind of judging to a greater power.
Here is a quote from Mathew Chapter. 7:
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you"
We can at least agree on that.
Look, I'm not a religious expert, you wont find me in church every week but the God I know is all about forgiveness, understanding, tolerance and love, maybe I got it wrong and in the end I will be judge accordingly, but I think Ill take that chance, I don't know the other, you know the intolerable God.
Mr. Jason Collins is a gay man, period, he is not a criminal or the devil, lets let him live HIS life as he see fit and you live YOUR life as you wish. I believe that's fair. Don't you?
As always this is a fans opinion and from what I understand everybody has one and I thank God for that.
