Get ready for a busy week of roster moves involving the Texas Rangers. Technically it bagan today with second baseman Ian Kinsler being sent to the 15-day DL with an intercostal strain. Just so you know the intercostal muscles are those located between each rib.
Back to the original story. Kinsler goes to the disabled list and Jurickson Profar is called up. Fans on Twitter were both sad and happy. sad about Kins but happy to see Profar. Some were upset though at the fact that Profar isn't in tonight's lineup. I'm okay with that. Profar will see some playing time but it's a win-win situation. Jurickson may be the better hitter but Leury Garcia is the better fielder. In fact when it comes to evaluating defense at shortstop in the organization it goes Elvis Andrus, Garcia, Luis Sardinas and then Profar.
The next moves to be made will happen on Monday. That's when reliever Cory Burns will be optioned back to the minors and Josh Lindblom will be recalled to start for the injured Alexi Ogando. Personally I would like to see Burns stay and have Derek Lowe designated for assignment. Michael Kirkman would then move into the long relief role for the time being.
But wait, it doesn't stop there.
Tuesday will see the return of A.J. Pierzynski with Robinson Chirinos being optioned back down. I know some fans would prefer that Geovany Soto be sent back down but that can't happen. He has no options. The Rangers would have to DFA him and that simply won't happen.
Hopefully the team doesn't have to make any more moves this week as that would likely mean that another player was injured. Until then we can look forward to the return of Ian Kinsler, Colby Lewis, Alexi Ogando, Joakim Soria, Neftali Feliz and Matt Harrison.
All of these injuries and the Rangers are still tied for the best league in baseball. That's depth for you.
Until next time, I'll see you in the cheap seats!
