I have to say, Mayweather's finally stepping up to the plate in a BIG WAY. Saul Canelo, a.k.a the "Red-Headed Mexican", is the best possible fight out there right now that Mayweather could've took, and yes, he TOOK IT! With Manny Pacquiao losing two in a row, Saul Canelo feels the void. Canelo is coming off a HUGE win against Austin "no doubt" Trout in late April. Trout was the first person to beat Miguel Cotto in Madison Square Garden. Saul Canelo is currently the WBC, WBA and Ring Magazine light Middleweight champ. He has an impressive record of 42-0, with 31 of those wins coming by knockout. Money Mayweather vs Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is scheduled for Sept. 14th on Showtime P.P.V. & it will be at a catch weight of 152 lbs. Mayweather has fought @ the full junior middleweight limit of 154 lbs. only on two occasions. (Cotto & De La Hoya) Canelo, who is physically bigger than Mayweather, rehydrated to over 170 lbs. on the night of his last fight against Trout. Words stolen from Michael Buffer's mouth, "lets get ready to rumble".
*from yahoosports.com ~ "Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer said he thinks the fight has a chance to surpass the 2.5 million sales that Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya generated in 2007 to set the record."
In other boxing news, it looks as if K9 Bundrage, 32-5, is the front runner to take on Miguel Cotto September 28th @ the Barclay Center. Saul Canelo was talked about to fight Cotto, but of course he's got a date with the pound for pound best now.
