That was a sad spectacle today in Washington. The outright partisanship that took place was the saddest thing of all. How could any person not see through Clemens' desperate attempt to hold onto his legacy? It just isn't a coincidence that the Dems hit Clemens hard and the Repubs just happen to go after McNamee. WTF is that! Why should this matter call for both parties to choose sides? Why weren't both men questioned by both parties? That was just pathetic. I mean did they all get together with their respective colleagues and discuss this before the hearing? Why? Who were they pandering to? I'm left with nothing but questions.

I understand that McNamee is no choir boy. His repeated referencing of his past as a member of the NYPD hurts to hear as a resident of NYC. Yeah, he sure as hell has a shady past (that "situation" that occurred in the hotel pool is quite disturbing) and he is not the most morally solid witness but that doesn't lessen the information he has come forward with. I'm not even talking about the syringes and bloody gauze, I'll even throw that out the window.

I'm talking about how all his testimony has been corroborated by Pettitte and Knoblauch. For Clemens to sit there under oath and say that Pettitte "misremembered" or "misheard" any conversation they had concerning his PED use is laughable. For him to say that when he heard Pettitte's admission of PED use he was "shocked" is incredibly hard to believe. For him to say that he had no knowledge of his wife being injected with HGH by McNamee in HIS BEDROOM is outright absurd.

I keep trying to give Clemens the benefit of the doubt because I hate it when people are wrongly accused of something and the whole world turns on them and tries to bring them down. But man, today was the day where I have given up on trying to find anything that makes me believe that Clemens did not use PEDs. Honestly, I've always thought he has but I was trying to see if there was something, SOMETHING out there that would prove to me that Roger's impassioned defense COULD be valid. But there isn't. Maybe something gets uncovered down the road but it is not looking good. I'll leave it at that.

I'm going to wrap this up on the point I made at the beginning, why did this turn into a partisan issue for this committee? Dan Burton and Christopher Shays should be ashamed of their actions today. They made no attempt to get to the bottom of anything, they attempted to destroy McNamee and cast him in the most negative light possible. At one point one of them alluded to Clemens as being a "Titan" of the game as if he should not be held accountable for his actions. What a joke. While the Dems on the committee went after Clemens it clearly lacked the vitriol and nastiness the Repubs used on McNamee. The Dems tried to get Clemens to explain the discrepancies between his testimony and everyone else's. They actually tried to get to the bottom of something while the Repubs resorted to character assassination.

I'm sure there are some people out there that might still believe in Clemens' innocence and I would love to hear their theories because right now I can't see anything that would make me believe him. Either way, it was a sad day on the Hill. One in which I wish the members of the committee would have set aside whatever political allegiances they have and worked productively to get to the bottom of this situation. All it did was point out that we still have a long way to go in this country to truly work together.

I definitely agree with you. Good blog. I didn't get to watch all of the hearing, but what I did see was brutal for McNamee and constantly calling him a liar was unnecessary, because he already said he lied at first to protect Clemens, Pettite and Knoblauch. While he was under oath I think he was truthful. Too many of Clemens denials were proven false. Si now where do we go from here.

Thanks for the response smoothsandy. Where do we go from here is right. We shall see.
