I know this has been said before, but it bears repeating. It's not just the taxpayers money, though that's a big part of it, its also the time wasted. How long did this committee spend prior to the hearings? Let's see the Mitchell report came out 13 Dec, so I'm guessing 2 months time for; 1) reading the entire report, which I'm guessing took the longest, 2) talking to potential witnesses, lawyers, 3) taking depostions, 4) tracking down one nanny, 5) taking pictures and getting autographs, and 6) making up stupid questions. Who cares what uniform Clemens wears into the HOF. This was more about two political parties trying to make Clemens (Dems) or McNamee (Reps) look more unbelievable. Also calling one witness a liar (even if he is) didn't help the cause. I thought everyone already knew that politicians have to take lying 101 to even get elected, so who are they to be throwing stones. So if you think all politicians are truthful then you haven't been paying attention. There was also another "Roger" on Capitol Hill, Roger Goodell NFL commissioner was there too. Arlen Spector just can't let it go. Why do you think all the major sports have a commissioner and a players union. If you still can't decide if our government should not be getting involved with sports consider these; 1) spygate tapes or CIA torture tapes 2) illegal drugs in sports or prescription drugs for the elderly 3) insurance for the games' integrity or insurance for the poor 4) building a case against atheletes or building homes in New Orleans 5) getting an autographed baseball or getting our troops home. You decide for yourself if its time for the government to back off. I know there is an anti -trust exemption, but that shouldn't be used to blackmail sports leagues.
