The West Michigan Whitecaps and Detroit Tigers announced that former MLB pitcher Mark Johnson will be the new pitching coach for the 'Caps. Johnson will replace Alan Mills who will take over in Oneonta in the NY-Penn League. Johnson started his coaching career with Oneonta in 2007. As a Major League pitcher, he spent time withe Tigers from 2000-03 and '05. He also saw action with the Astros, Marlins, Yankees, and Dodgers.
He joins new 'Caps manager Joe DePestino and hitting coach Benny Distefano. Distefano is the only returning member of the on field staff. Former manager and Tiger Tom Brookens was promoted to the AA Erie Seawolves along with pitching coach Ray Burris.
