It shouldn't be a surprise that former Steelers coach Bill Cowher said it best: Is it illegal to film an opponent's signals? Yes. Is it the reason the Patriots beat the Steelers in two AFC Championship games? No.

While Cooz is glad the Steelers took the high road in this whole fiasco, and didn't pay any mind to the thought the Patriots weren't simply the better team in those games, the seediness of it all still bugs him.

Meanwhile, over on RF365, The Great 18 (team unit evaluation) is still going on.  No. 7 (perhaps the most intriguing positional situation on the Steelers this offseason) will be posted very soon, and it has links to 8-18 on there as well.

Bill Cowher has taken ``the high road'' because he someday may want to coach again in the NFL; or, at the very least, continue to pick up a handsome paycheck as an NFL commentator on CBS ... This ``high road'' buisness is bunk!!! Cowher, you might remember, is the same guy who went balistic after a playoff loss against the Titans after one of players clearly ran into the Titans' place kicker. Cowher is too competitive to actually believe his team wasn't cheated out of a victory or victories vs. the Patriots. The so-called ``high road'' is simply a safe way to perhaps continue a coaching career in the corrupt and tarnished NFL.

I watched both Pats vs Steelers games and the reason the Steelers lost both is because of Steeler mistakes like fumbles, interceptions, and letting the Pats special teams run wild. Agreed.

Think maybe turnovers can be created by a defense that knows what's coming? Just asking.

Cowher went ballistic because Dewayne Washington chose overtime of a winnable playoff game to perform at the worst level of his career. Not only the running-into-the-kicker, but he blew two open-field tackles on (I think it was) Justin McCairens to set up that field goal attempt.

They were beat up to all h3ll at that point, and Oakland would have destroyed them in the next round anyway.

Personally, and this is sort of off-the-point, I equate "knowing" their signals with being allowed to create a cheat card for a test. The answers aren't going to be on the test, therefore, the amount you write on it is ultimately subject to what will be on the test. Because of that, the act of creating that note card requires you to know the material, and know what to prepare for.

Belichick getting a primer or two to what Kordell might have been changing the play to at the line of scrimmage didn't help nearly as much as learning to recognize Kordell's tendencies because of the study put into what the play changed to in every situation.

Besides, it's not like Kordell was good anyway, and certainly, they didn't need to know any signals when the Steelers marched the field goal unit onto the field. It's not like Tecmo Bowl, where they picked the same play the Steelers did, therefore, they blocked the kick and ran it back for a touchdown.

Not to rag on you, Bob, but that ring is what's going to get Coach Cowher a job (anyone want to read my theory on why he's going to New England next year?). His reaction is admirable, and I will agree there is likely some truth to what you said, but Mike Holmgren was about as classless as it gets after he lost the Super Bowl, and he'll have his choice of any opening one year after he "retires" from the Seahawks.
