Let me begin with my blog's thesis statement, just to make it desperately clear to any reader who comes across this post--Clinton Portis is an idiot. We've known this in the past with his wonderful Southeast Jerome chronicles, but that's the good kind of stupid. That's stupid in the vein of Adult Swim shows and Monty Python, the kind of stupid we can all safely enjoy.
But until recently, we didn't know Clinton Portis was the bad stupid. You know, the ignorant stupid which detracts from society, such as the push for intelligent design in schools or "Family Guy." We discovered this fact just recently when we were given this gem from Portis concerning Michael Vick and his love for dogs:
"I don't know if he was fighting dogs or not, but it's his property, it's his dog," Portis told WAVY-TV. "If that's what he wants to do, do it. I think people should mind their business." --(MSNBC.com)
Fantastic! What a wonderful thing to defend somebody about! That Clinton Portis sure is a stand up guy. Here everybody is crucifying Vick for being associated with the dog fighting culture and then there's Portis, letting everyone know forcing dogs to kill and maim one another is not really a big deal. Thank goodness America has his calming voice of reason or else we'd be in trouble!
Although I don't like Michael Vick for several reasons, I am willing to give the man the benefit of the doubt until we find a direct link between him and dog fighting--Portis, on the other hand, has provided me with enough fuel to despise him. There's no investigation needed here, Portis has let us know from his own mouth what utter disregard he has for the lives of animals. He doesn't defend the media's determining of Vick's guilty before any substantial evidence can be found (which I would agree with), but instead the act of dog fighting itself. I could get into why dog fighting is detestable, but I'm just going to assume most reasonable members of society can already see why saying another living thing is "property" is disgusting and move on.
Portis giggling like a little girl while giving that interview made the statements that much worse. He doesn't seem to understand why people might be mad that dogs are being made to kill one another for the amusement their owners. It is a lot to assume after just one interview, but Portis seems to be among those in society who hold the belief that all animals are here for us to do what we wish with them, which includes torturing them to death for fun. It's hard to put people who fall in this category above those who believe in racial superiority, since it shows a lot of the same disregard for life beyond that of one's own. These people are scummy idiots, which makes Portis a scummy idiot too.
I liked the guy up until today, but now I can't shake his defense of what Vick has been accused of doing from my opinion of him. And what makes him even more moronic is the fact that he knows "a lot of back roads that got the dog fight if you want to go see it," pretty much spelling out for everyone that he has indeed been to a dog fight or two in his day. Huh, there's a big investigation about participating in dog fighting? Well, I better pretty much say I go to those too! By golly, what a great plan! If I were on the investigation team looking at Vick, I'd be finding Portis' number in the phone book so I could ask him a few questions.
In the end, I have just one message for Portis--please, shut up. I beg you. You had your run with Southeast Jerome, but you killed whatever funny you made with that by defending Vick and the practice of dog fighting itself. Now we see you're not an idiot we can laugh with, but instead an idiot we need to avoid.

Good stuff on a bad and stupid subject. Seems like the NFL may have more problems than they hoped. Today alone brings us Portis, and Kircus of the Broncos, and Nicholson of the Bengals (wha'ts that?). Nicholson formerly of the Bengals. and Justin Miller of the Jets. It just keeps coming.
But great post eye dub.

I wonder if he thought Vick was actually fighting the dogs, not watching dog fighting

Thanks, eye dub. I just happened to see that whole interview. Looked like he was shocked that dog fighting is illegal in Virginia. What was with the monkey in the same screen laughing with him?
Yeah, for the time being, Vick goes way above this guy as far as being a good person goes. Portis seems to think if you give a bit to charity and do some good here and there, you can do whatever you want. Well, Mr. Vick makes $13 million a year. He gave $1,000 or $10,000 when that horrible incident occured in Blacksburg. True, he didn't have to give anything, but come on.
