How often have you guys heard that the Jags need a true "#1" wide receiver? Way too often. I want to put this crap to rest. For any wide receiver to be great wide receiver he has to have the ball. A guy is not going to be productive at all if he doesn't get the ball in his hands. Reggie showed us this year what he can do when you throw the ball to him, Matt and Ernest have shown us what they are capable of when the ball is thrown in their direction.  In my opinion we have a great plethora of wide receivers and I'm fine with their production, it's the media, however, that insists that we find a true "#1" guy. Well if you want a number one then throw to one guy. Some might say it's not as easy to just throw the ball to someone, that the guy has to get open. What are coaches for? They can teach a guy how to run a route. Just throw him the ball! Your first round picks aren't going to be productive or #1 wide receivers if they're inactive for the game. Put the dude on the field and let him do what he's paid to do.

Another problem I have with this "#1" crap is that it can make your passing game predictable and one-dimensional. When it's crunch time and you need a big pass play and you do have a true #1, don't you think the defense knows who you're going to? Let's be real, our [Jaguars WRs] don't scare anybody and that's the way we like it. The other team dosen't know who we're gonna throw to. Don't you think that's an advantage? Also, they [media] say a team dosen't go anywhere without a true "#1." Look at the teams who made the playoffs this year. Steelers, Jags, Patriots, Chargers, Colts, Titans, Packers, Cowboys, Bucs, Redskins, Seahawks, and Giants.  Of those teams I believe only 4 have that true "#1" that the media likes: Steelers, Cowboys, Bucs, and Giants. That means 8 other teams went somewhere without a true "#1."  We know they say the Jags don't have one, so look at the others.

Pats - Who was it here, Randy or Wes?

Chargers - Would you want Vincent Jackson or Chris Chambers your "#1" guy?

Colts - Is it Reggie or Marvin?

Titans - They're like the Jags, except the Jags have better WRs.

Packers - Both Driver and Jennings are great.

Redskins - Like Moss or Randle El played like "#1s' this year

Seahawks - You would think the former Super Bowl MVP is the "#1," but Nate stood out too.

And how far did the Steelers, Cowboys, and Bucs go in the playoffs? Oh yeah, one and done. You could even say that the Giants' true "#1" didn't make the biggest catch in the Super Bowl. Then there are teams who have two great guys to throw to instead of just one like the guys in Cinncinnati, Arizona,  or Chicago? And how good were teams with that "#1" like Carolina, Houston, and Denver this year?

What I'm saying is that one wide receiver is not going to make or break your team. I get so tired of people beating up our wide receivers because they haven't emerged as "#1s." I belive any one wide out on the Jags can be a "#1" all you have to do is throw him the ball. But don't expect that 90 catch, 1,300 yard, 18 touchdown year from one guy on the squad. Not because our guys aren't capable of it, but because our guy David Garrard is a good quaterback and does what a good one should do. And that is to not lock on to one guy. He spreads the ball around and gets it to whoever the open guy is. I'd much rather prefer three or four guys with 50 catch, 700 yard, 5 touchdown seasons than one guy with 90 catches, 1,300 yards, 18 tds and his counterparts with virtually nothing
