Shortly after hearing Future Hall-of-Famer Pedro Martinez' comments regarding HGH, Jays Ace Roy Halladay responded with a firey defense of his own.
"I am also one of those guys who didn't use HGH to heal quicker or pitch better. I mean, can you imagine how amazing of a pitcher I would be if I did use it? I respect Pedro, and his attitude toward performance enhancing drugs is similar to mine-however last year I suffered acute appendicitis, and not only did I recover two weeks ahead of schedule sans HGH, I also performed the appendectomy myself. Mangoes and eggs are all very nice, but c'mon, I mean I frickin' performed surgery here."
He was satisfied with his perfomance, but voiced his dissapointment in manager John Gibbons bringing in a closing surgeon to finish the job.
"I felt good down the stretch, felt that I could finish the job, but I guess the loss of blood combined with the high stitch count caused Ol' Gibby to bring in the closer. I felt like I could finish it up and get out of there with a W, but hey he's the manager and I respect his decsion, ya know? Whatever it takes to get the team a win."
Halladay went on to say that although his nickname is indeed "Doc", he would leave inevitable future injuries in the hands of real Drs.
