The Penguins were hoping Ty Conklin could hold his own while Marc-Andre Fleury was out, to give the team a shot at the playoffs when Fleury returned. Conklin did more than just that. Conklin has been amazing in the absence of Fleury, posting a 16-4-3 record with a 2.18 GAA and a league leading .932 save percentage. Fleury is on the verge of returning, but the Penguins may have filled their starting goalie slot with Conklin.
