Hello and welcome to Bear Down Nation, the premier group for Bears fans on Fannation. We're small as of right now (2 whole members as of today!) but with YOUR help we can grow into one of the elite Fannation groups.
And I know what all you Bears fans are thinkin: Are we Super Bowl contenders this year?
I hope to God that we are. That'd be fantastic, but to achieve our goal of reaching the playoffs this year (we gotta take babysteps people) we're gunna have to make some changes...
1) Remodel our O Line:
I love em to death, but Fred and Roberto are getting old now. The last big O-lineman we drafted was a bust (remember Mark Columbo?) but we need to draft someone like Jake Long or trade for some younger linemen before we can even consider gettin another QB. No QB will be successful in Chicago with a bunch of linemen protecting him in their Hoverround Scooters. Olsen was a great success. Let's keep the Draft luck goin.
2) Boot Angelo:
Angelo had a good run (not) but I think it's time he and the Bears went their seperate ways. Off the top of my head I can't recall he made many big deals that significantly helped out the team, and that's what we need at this point. We gotta start bringin in younger, more agile talent and clear house. Angelo got us goin with releasing Moose, (who I love dearly, but aged significantly last season) but once again our biggest priority is the O-Line and he has done NOTHING to improve there. We need someone who will.
3) Build a fortress around Devin Hester
Obviously the team's playmaker. Get him in the classroom watchin tapes and slap down that playbook, Lovie! We began using him as a receiver this year, but he made minimal impact as he and the playbook don't seem to understand one another. He's gotta get those plays down, for Halas's sake, so we can use him more than just 6 or 7 plays a game!
4) STAY HEALTHY
This one speaks for itself I think. The Bears run at the postseason ended at Week 1, when we lost Dvoracek and Mike Brown for the SEASON. If Mike Brown gets injured again this season, (I would be surprised if he didn't) he'd easily become the most injury prone athlete i have ever seen. Can't lose your starters early in the season and excpect to do well.
Once again, welcome to Bear Down Nation. I will be taking an active part in this group as it's moderator. Feel free to invite your friends

5) Get rid of Benson!

Report Offensive Commentwell really as long as we improve our O Line, our QB and RB will both improve significantly. Neither Benson or Grossman are good at all, but they'd at least play a little better with a younger offensive line.

Report Offensive CommentIt is very obvious that the O-line must be the priority going into this season.
However, I will have to disagree about booting Jerry Angelo. First, I don't think he will be going anywhere soon. I think that I heard he's locked up thorugh 2013 or something like that.
Second, the reason the O-line needs overhauled is because of the lack of development at QB. Jerry put all of his eggs in one basket when he drafted Grossman and decided he would be the man. Grossman's injuries and lack of development (possibly because of coaching?) greatly affected the "window" that was supposed to bring us a championship.
Good Things: Jerry Angelo has been very proactive as far as extending contracts goes. The reason that is so important is that the Bears save money by not letting key players hit the free agent market. Could you imagine if Vasher and Tillman were free agents this year? Also, extending Kruetz's contract last year was a good thing. A. Brown got his extension this off-season.. Briggs will be a Bear for six more years. And, they are currently negotiating with Hester and Harris.
My list of changes would be:
1) Rebuild the O-line
2) Draft a good WR and go after Johnson in AZ or another decent starting WR
3) Create more depth at RB and have an open competition through preseason
4) Draft a QB for the future after letting Griese go
5) Hope for a healthy season
I apologize for rambling. I haven't commented on the Bears in a while.

Report Offensive CommentI think Angelo needs to go. Our best special teams player is allowed to leave, and arguably our worst quarterback was allowed to stay. The staff is confused, and need to re-evaluate what they are doing.

Report Offensive CommentBest special teams player? Did you forget about Devin Hester?
