So I was playing NBA Live 07 (yes, the one from last year), and I decided to do something that in real life won't happen for a good 5+ years. What's that? Take the Knicks to the top. The Knicks were the worst team record-wise when the game was released, so I took them over. I was going to be better than Isahia (can't spell) Thomas. Only thing is I simulate the games, I'm not going to play them and go 82-0.
First things first: hire some staff. I had a good-looking budget, so I have a great trainer, scout, and assistant head coach, with a decent assistant. Cool, but what about the players? Yeah, you know the guys that are going to put the ball in the hoop. Well, throughout the season, I kept trying to make deals, but with my -$50 million cap room, it was hard to do anything. I did get close to getting Ben Gordon and Ben Wallace, but it didn't happen.
The last time I didn't have a losing record was at 6-6. Yep, 6-6, and then the usuall happened: the Knicks lost. And lost. And lost. So many games I was winning after the 3rd period, and then I got beaten in the 4th. Had to be at least 20 games like that.
So I'm something like 23-40. My upcoming schedule was hard; Dallas, Cleveland, you know. Doesn't look too good. All of a sudden my team started winning in the 4th quarter. I went on a last month and a half surge, and finished 35-47, compared to the year before's 23-59, and actual '06-07 record of 33-49. I was 2 games away from making the playoffs.
Playoffs: the Mavs who actually got upset by the Warriors in the first round, got swept by Sacremento first round. Dirk did get traded earlier, though. The Suns won in the West Finals 4-3 over the Spurs and ended up sweeping Philly in the Finals.
Now I'm thinking, cool I'm going to start the offseason and make the playoffs next year. Then the unthinkable happened: the reason this is called Part .5. I was just about to advance to the offseason, and the game froze. =-0. I didn't save before because I had plenty of time on my hands, so I lost everything. I know, huge loss. Once I have a ton of time again I'll try Mission: So Impossible I Don't Know Why I'm Trying again. Here's my predictions:
- A winning season by the end of year 2.
- A playoff appearance by year 3.
- A Finals apperance in 7-10 seasons.
- A Finals win by the end of years 10-13.
- Don't worry, I'll probably quit before year 13.
How's that for a video game drama? :-)
