Breaking News:

Penguins send forwards Colby Armstrong, Erik Christensen, Angelo Esposito and a first-round draft pick to Atlanta for:

(drumroll....)

Marian Hossa and Pascal Dupuis. Hossa is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.  Hossa does have 26 goals and 30 assists so far this season.

The Penguins also traded for defenseman Hal Gill from Toronto for second and fifth round draft picks.

Gill is a big-bodied, physical defenseman who is a penalty killer whose mobility has been questioned at time.

The Hossa move is a very bold move by the Penguins, as some experts think we gave up a lot for Hossa due to the fact we will probably be unable to sign him following this season.  The trade will be seen as this: a success if the Pens win the cup this year and/or sign Hossa long term or a failure if we fail to do that.  Hossa is looking for 9.5 million a year.  That's more than Crosby's 8.7 million/year and not to mention Malkin's rookie contract is expiring soon and he will probably get around 9 million a year.  That would be almost 27 million for 3 players leaving a small amount of wiggle room for the rest of your roster (about 20 million).  Also, keep in mind Fleury is going to want paid like a starting goalie and Conklin will be making more than his humbling salary that he is making this year.  Look for the Pens to keep Fleury and let Conklin go.

Another surprising note is that neither Conklin nor Sabourin was moved.  The Pens still have 3 goalies on their active roster.

It will be interesting to see how Crosby deals with losing his good friend in Armstrong and how well he adapts to Hossa.
