The latest Rumor is that the Cowboys have interest in WR Randy Moss, which is fine by me. If you are going to sign a guy like Randy Moss then there are certain things that must be done. No. 1 would be moving around cap money. There are some guys on the team that are eating up salary cap space, such as DT Jason Ferguson who is all but gone with the re-signing of DT/DE Jay Ratliff, MLB Bobbie Carpenter, who can't seem to figure out how to get on the field, WR Terry Glenn who will not be re-signed, RB Julius Jones- who won't be re-signed, LT Flozell Adams- who Hopefully won't be re-signed.

There will be other players that get released and will make some room for other guys to be signed. Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Jason Witten, Marion Barber, Tony Romo, and Patrick Crayton= A pretty good offense.

Other people keep wanting to trade up to get RB Darren McFadden at No. 1.....It is STUPID. Why? Because first off you will lose both 1st rounders and Marion Barber. Since Marion Barber is about to get the restricted tag that makes him worth a 1st and a 3rd round pick....so you would be giving up 3- 1st round picks, 1 3rd round pick, and a Pro Bowl Running Back. Sure you get back Darren McFadden but you get him at probably at least 40 Million guaranteed dollars. This is a RB that is 6-1 211lbs (not so big for a RB and can he handle the punishment). Then take into account that this move would cost more money than it would to re-sign Marion Barber to a long term contract, pay your 2 first round picks, and you wouldn't be able to sign a High Profile Free Agent. All that for a tall, slim running back that has NEVER played in the NFL, one that has two paternity suites already before even being drafted............

The next thing you look at, the Cowboys already had the Best Offense in the NFC. The Defense has lost games in the final weeks of the seasons for the past 3 years. Mainly the secondary and SS Roy Williams. Use one of the first round picks on a CB or Safety. The other should either be used on a Pass blocking LT or a WR.

The Cowboys would be making a HUGE mistake if they spent all this money on DMC. Basically what I mean is that the Cowboys would be able to have Marion Barber, all draft picks, and WR Randy Moss....for the amount of money that they would be paying Run DMC on his contract.

The boys need to get someone to cover R. Williams butt in the secondary. Just make him a backer already!

February 27, 2008  08:19 AM ET

I think SS Roy Williams needs to go to the Colts or Bucs and play ROLB in the Cover 2 Scheme. He can get back up to 240 and play OLB. That's just me though. Everyone else thinks that its too far fetched.

February 27, 2008  08:20 AM ET

I would be very happy to get FS/CB Reggie Smith from OU to play FS and move Ken Hamlin to SS. Ken Hamlin is really a SS.

February 27, 2008  09:58 AM ET

I think Moss is staying in New England,it is not about the money for him,he wants to play with Brady.

February 27, 2008  11:18 AM ET

Ken Hamlin is a hell of a FS in our style of defense too though - let's not forget he was 2nd in picks this past season behind Anthony Henry, and most of that is because QBs refuse to throw toward Newman.

I say draft a CB with our first pick in the 1st round, and a RB with the 2nd pick in the first round, then look for a WR or FS in the 2nd round. Unless you're going for Jonathan Stewart, RB from Oregon, who could probably be had late 2nd round...then I say draft two top-notch DBs. Scoring points was not our problem this past year - keeping the other team from driving 80 yards down the field through the air with 40 seconds left before the half in a playoff game? Different story.

I agree with bmw ... I have said for two years we should try Williams at linebacker. He is too much of a liability in coverage to remain at safety. We need to draft two good DBs or trade picks for alreay established cover guys. While I would love to have Moss and Owens at WR, I just don't see them co-existing especially after the origianl 81 soap opera. Another quality receiver can most likely be found later in the draft.

February 27, 2008  09:00 PM ET

I have always said that williams should be moved and Hamlin should move to strong safety and we need to get a play making free safety. We should draft a corner for the nickel. Jaques Reeves is horrible. We should definitely make the trade for Calvin Johnson from Detroit and then draft a backup running back for Barber.

Is "paying" for the next great NFL superstar such a bad idea? Trust me when I say D. Mac will be a heck of an NFL running back and he and Adrian Peterson in Minnesota will set new standards for the R/B position.

As for Marion Barber, I agree he is a really good R/B but I'm not sold he can be an every down back. This on-going discussion about Marion taking us to where we need to be reminds me of the same discussions about seven years ago with the cries of T-Ham being the next great Dallas Cowboys running back. Last time I checked, T-Ham is selling ribeyes and hot dogs out of the back of his trunk with Ickey Woods.

Do we risk passing on D. Mac? Those type of running backs only come along ever so often. He reminds me a lot of Tony Dorsett who had the same blazing speed in when he came out of Pitt. I say we roll the dice and take a chance. There's no way Moss will be in Dallas.

DMas,
You want to put 40 Mil guaranteed into Darren McFadden? Not to mention 2 first round picks and Marion Barber? You would still need to draft another RB to help out Darren McFadden. He never carried the full load either.

How can you mention Marion Barber and T-Hambrick in the same sentence. Barber has proved over a 3 season span that he has what it takes as a Runner, Receiver, and Blocker to be the Cowboys feature back.

Yes, you do EASILY pass up Darren McFadden. The Offense is not the Problem in Dallas. It is the Secondary. You need all of your draft choices to help get younger in many key areas rather than Cripple yourself with one player at a position that is good.

Legend,

In today's dollars it would have taken a guaranteed "30 million" to draft both Dorsett and Aikman. These high priced contracts have forever changed the game of pro football. Some team will draft McFadden and receive an immediate return on their investment starting the upcoming season.

You're right about the Barber/Hambrick comparison, but I do know and have seen that running backs with that style of play like Barber don't last long in this league. Barber is a great in-between the tackls, pro bowl type player, but he doesn't have the skill set to change the game by taking it to the house from any point on the field. Emmitt didn't have that skill set either, but Emmitt was also not a bruising type of runner.

If we keep Barber, we will also need a complimentary player to give that added punch. I just don't see that on the current roster or anywhere else in the league with the unrestricted free agents at running back.

This is going to be an interesting draft. If we pass on D-Mac, Jones will forever be second guessed just as he continues to be second guessed by passing on Moss. And for the record, I firmly believe Moss would have prolonged Aikman's career as opposing defenses would have been hesitant to tee-off on Aikman with Moss at receiver.

February 28, 2008  11:55 AM ET

I am still unhappy about Greg Ellis and Randy Moss Fiasco. I would love for Moss to come.

Everyone thinks that Marion Barber takes so many big shots. He actually doesn't.....He does a great job using the Stiff arm and using his feet to get away from DLineman and Linebackers and gets hit by the secondary.

February 28, 2008  12:23 PM ET

Marion Barber delivers the blow - there's a big difference in longevity when you're dealing the blow versus receiving it.

February 29, 2008  05:40 PM ET

"LT Flozell Adams- who Hopefully won't be re-signed."

Er..why?

Flozell is arguably the best LT in the league.

February 29, 2008  05:42 PM ET

As for Randy Moss...Oh, please God, no, no, NO!!! Whoever honestly believes TO and Moss can coexist are very, very naive.

March 2, 2008  09:05 AM ET

Forget about McFadden. the price is just to high...way to high. The price on Moss is to high and the chemisty sucks.
