Mother nature threw a curveball at my potential exhibition opener in Clearwater as the rains and Hollywood-caliber lightning came making the Florida State vs. Phillies game less than attractive to be at. (In any case the Phillies don't seem too worried on the surface about Brad Lidge's knee, although you know they have to be thinking the worst, which would be Tom Gordon in as closer for the season.)
Therefore I decided instead to set out early from my next destination, lovely landlocked Lakeland, for the Tigers home opener against a Mets road squad that looks exactly like what it is, a travel team full of bench and Triple A players (Batting sixth...Ruben Gotay). However in theory this could be a World Series preview, making the game in 55-degree weather, more than bearable (remember this is supposed to be Sunny and WARM Florida) for the packed house and even more packed press box.
The Tigers are loaded today with their projected opening day lineup in tact (with the exception of Gary Sheffield and starting pitcher Justin Verlander). They have a team loaded offensively from top to bottom. Expect to see this lineup when they take to Comerica Field on March 31 against the Royals.
CF Granderson, 2b Polanco, DH Sheffield, RF Ordonez, 3B Cabrera, 1B, Guillen, SS Renteria, C Rodriguez, LF Jacque Jones
All are worthy of a spot in every league. Look for more later.
Also another reminder to check out my position-by-position fantasy preview columns. Also soon we'll start posting team-by-team fantasy analysis for all 30 squads.
