The city of Pittsbugh mourns with the loss of one of the greatest men ever to grace its fair city, as Myron Cope passed away early this mourning at the age of 79 from cardio-respiratory complications.

To many Mr. Cope was the man who put the "Steel" in Steelers.  He was first & foremost a writer (that's what he believed he was trained to do in life).  He was also a Pittsburgh native, a sportswriter, a sports color analyst, the inventor of the "Terrible Towel", & an inductee to the National Broadcast Hall of Fame.  Not to mention, Mr. Cope was one heck of a great man to his family & friends...

Mr. Cope began his career with the Steelers in 1970 as a color analyst commentator.  He had a unique way of telling the public exactly what was going on down on the field.  Using expressions such as "Double Yoi!" & the like.  No doubt bringing the fans closer to understanding the hearts of the Pittsburgh Steeler players while they were down in the trenches on the turf & battling to lead the city to another championship...

Mr. Cope is also the inventor of the "Terrible Towl".  He came up with the idea in 1975 as a way get the Steeler fans more involved in the games.  A few years later, Myron gave the exclusive rights of the Terrible Towel to The Allegheny Valley School for physically and mentally handicapped children, of which his own son who suffered from autism attended...  This cheritable act has changed the lives of thousands of children suffering from disabilities in Western Pennsylvania... And will continue to do so for many years to follow...

Mr. Cope also came up w/ the expession of "The Immaculate Reception" when Franko Harris made one of, if not, the best catches in the history of the NFL...  However, before the play actually began, Mr. Cope was actually relieving himself in the men's room.  He heard all the commotion & rushed out to see why all the excitement... He eventually made his way down to the corner of the endzone on the field. Take my word for it Steeler Nation, if you go back & watch the highlights of that play, Myron is actually standing right in the corner of the endzone w/ a dark trench coat on when Franko scores the TD...  Myron always had a nack with people & was an amazing man...

My heart goes out to Mr. Cope's family & friends, the Steelers Organization, and his millions of fans around the world.  Myron Cope will never be forgotten...  In my eyes, he is the greatest man ever from the city of Pittsburgh...

R.I.P  Myron Cope (1929-2008) - We will all miss you.....
