The main issues here are the amount of energy former Steelers LG ALan Faneca spent in calling out the Steelers for not treating him fairly, and his decision to choose the team that has arguably the worst reputation for dealing with its players. Pete Kendall ring a bell? Laveraneus Coles is saying the same thing now.
Report: sources have indicated the deal is essentially done, with particulars still to be worked out. However, Tom Rock from Newsday Magazine writes that he spoke to Faneca's agent, Rick Smith, who said the signing is "false." (nod to Lifer for the scoop)
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette says the deal that was earlier reported is around the ballpark of what Faneca and Smith want, but that doesn't mean the offer the Jets made is signed yet. This likely means Smith is shopping the Jets offer to San Francisco and St. Louis, the two other possible suitors for Faneca. If accepted formally, the deal would make him the highest paid offensive lineman in football.
Faneca didn't want what was fair, he wanted what was his. As long as he recognizes the difference, everyone will be fine to move on.

Report Offensive CommentI have sources, Lifer...he hasn't been officially announced yet, but the contract is essentially a done deal. Barring death, he'll sign in New York by Sunday.

"Jets | Faneca story a false report?
Fri, 29 Feb 2008 16:19:24 -0800
Contradicting previous reports, Tom Rock, of New York Newsday, reports unrestricted free-agent OG Alan Faneca (Steelers) has not agreed to a deal with the Jets, according to his agent, Rick Smith. Rock reportedly spoke with Smith and Smith confirmed that the story of Faneca agreeing to a four-year deal with the Jets is false. "

Report Offensive CommentI have two reporters who are both telling me they have essentially agreed to a contract. They are just working out details regarding buyout clauses.
I'm sticking with it. If I'm wrong, I'll post a picture of me wearing a Trent Edwards jersey.*
*deal subject to Steelercooz actually getting a Trent Edwards jersey somewhere

Report Offensive Commentas a die hard fan of the BLACK & GOLD, i am saddened to see one of the finest offensive guards to play the game finely define himself as a self-centered nancy who left a family that gave him everything he could ask for to become the all-pro force that was trapped inside him. he was a mentor and role model to many young kids here in Pittsburgh; we thought he was one of the few left who played the game for all the right reasons.....the love of the game...the sportsmanship...the need to win for someone other than yourself; nonetheless, he, like all of the others who left my STILLERS for the wrong reasons shall never taste a victory as sweet as all of those hard fought battles with the FAMILY who raised him. best of luck #66. HERE WE GO STEELERS! & R.I.P. Myron (oiii-veee)

Report Offensive CommentR.I.P. Myron...Yoi!
For every Plaxico Burress or Mike Vrabel, there's five Levon Kirklands, Chad Browns or Neil O'Donnells. Big Nasty is a great player, and he's likely to be one of the few Steelers who left for greener pastures and actually produced, but ya know what? They got Faneca late in the first round in 1998, they can find him again. I don't recall whether the Giants had the best guard in the NFL on their team, but I do know they won the Super Bowl last year. Faneca was not the reason the Steelers won Super Bowl XL, either. One player will never be bigger than the team. So if he's happy to leave, I'm happy that he's gone. Kemoeatu will be a good player, and they can still move Colon back to his natural guard position, and put Starks back at RT.
