This is from my first NBA Live 08 Post:
I thought the problem I had today with NBA Live 08 was pretty random.
By the way, I was simulating all of this.
I started a dynasty mode with the Charlotte Bobcats. I signed Smuch Parker to a 23.2 million, 4 year contract.
Soon I was 4-14. Smush Parker was averaging around 5 PPG. I decided to trade him, my first round pick, and my leading scorer Jason Richardson for Dwayne Wade and the Heat's first round draft pick.
I did really good after that. I was seven games over .500 when the trade-deadline came. At the deadline, I traded Raymond Felton for Daniel Gibson.
I ended the season at 45-37 and finished 5th in the Eastern Conference. I beat the Washington Wizards in the first round then lost to the Boston Celtics in the second round.
So heading into the off-season, my team was pretty good. My first round pick from Miami ended up being #1 overall. I picked a SF named Durrell Smith.
In FA, I signed Antwan Jamison to a 24.6 million, two year deal. I moved Emeka Okafor up to Center so I had a lineup like this:
C-Emeka Okafor
PF-Antwan Jamison
SF-Durrell Smith
SG-Dwayne Wade
PG-Daniel Gibson
6th man-Gerald Wallace
7th man-Adam Morrison
I thought that I would have at least 55+ wins.
When Year 2 was over, I was 33-49
Gerald Wallace, Emeka Okafor, and Adam Morrison all scored under 10 PPG.
Durrell Smith, at least, won ROY with 20.8 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 3.2 APG.
I decided to do nothing in the off-season hoping that my team would do better.
Year 3 Record: 30-52
My advice: Don't pick the Bobcats for dynasty mode.
I started the offseason getting the No. 5 pick in the Draft. I released some players, overpaid no-names mostly.
I traded my first round and second round pick to the LA Clippers who had the No. 1 Overall pick. In the draft, I picked Alex Johnson, a PG.
Right before the FA signing, I released Emaka Okafor and decided he wasn't worth what I paid him (6.7 million per year). I had go looking for a good center, and unfortunetly, I only got a center named Robert Swift. I also picked up Jason Maxiell.
I wanted to make a big splash with a trade so I decided on trying to get Yao Ming. After many rejections, I traded Gerald Wallace, Robert Swift, Antwan Jamison, and a few scrubs. MY lineup looked like so heading into the season:
C-Yao Ming
PF-Undetermined
SF-Durrell Smith
SG-Dwayne Wade
PG-Alex Johnson
I had little depth but I thought that the Wade-Ming combo would be enough.
I was wrong.
I went 11-71 that year after using one of my scrubs for my PF and after Wade and Ming got injured.
I got the 1 overall draft pick and I picked C Robert Grant incase Yao got injured and he would be my starter in Year 6 when Yao is gone. I released Adam Morrison and picked up Morris Peterson in FA. I didn't make a trade or anything. My lineup:
C-Yao Ming/Robert Grant-17.1 PPG, 0.7 APG, 6.7 RPG
PF-Jason Maxiell-9.2 PPG, 1.9 APG, 7.1 RPG
SF-Durrell Smith-25.6 PPG, 6.2 APG, 6.0 RPG
SG-Dwayne Wade-23.0 PPG, 4.5 APG, 4.2 RPG
PG-Alex Johnson-15.2 PPG, 5.9 APG, 2.1 RPG
I thought I would do pretty good.
Year 5 Record: 18-64
In the offseason, I got the 1 overall pick in the lottery.
I released Jason Maxiell because of bad offensive numbers.
I decided to trade my draft picks away along with Yao Ming (who I signed to a mega contract) for an aging Steve Nash and Amare Stroudamare.
In FA, I finally made a big move and picked up Shaquille O'Neal. I don't know why he was still playing. I also picked up Anderson Varejo, T.J. Ford, and Cory Maggette, all with low attributes. Still, I got some depth.
I traded Christian Fippula, a former 2nd round pick, for TRavis Outlaw.
I finally had a good lineup:
C-Robert Grant-10.2 PPG, 0.9 APG, 9.7 RPG
PF-Amare Stroudamare-25.0 PPG, 3.2 APG, 7.8 RPG
SF-Durrell Smith-19.7 PPG, 5.5 APG, 5.5 RPG
SG-Dwayne Wade-21.6 PPG, 3.2 APG, 4.8 RPG
PG-Alex Johnson-14.1 PPG, 7.0 APG, 2.1 RPG
Steve Nash-11.4 PPG, 9.3 APG, 0.9 RPG
Shaquille O'Neal-7.0 PPG, 1.2 APG, 7.5 RPG
T.J. Ford-10.9 PPG, 6.5 APG, 4.2 RPG
Travis Outlaw-9.4 PPG, 2.9 APG, 6.1 RPG
Anderson Varejo-7.8 PPG, 1.1 APG, 5.6 RPG
Cory Maggette-14.9 PPG, 5.7 APG, 6.1 RPG
I went into the season, started it out 20-3, finished 40-42
I went on a 20-39 streak and lost my last 4.
I made the playoffs as a 6th seed and went to the NBA Finals and beat the San Antonio Spurs.
Don't ask me how I did it.
