The Giants are officially 0-3 with their unrestricted free agents this year. Many are wondering if Derrick Ward will be the next. I, for one, would love to see the Giants sign Ward because as I've said in the past, one can never have enough running backs in this league...especially with Jacobs being the oft-injured bruiser that he is.
Gerry Reese and the G-Men now find themselves (after tendering Butler and Lorenzen) around 20 million under the projected cap. Discluding the money it takes to sign drafted players, the Giants have some money to burn.
The possibility exists that the Giants could use some of that money this year to lock-up Chris Snee or bump up the salaries of Strahan, Umenyoria, Plax, Jacobs, or Diehl. True Giants fans are already aware of the rumblings-and-grumblings of these players and it would be wise to use this available money to put an end to any headaches before they get larger.
I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, because then Gerry Reese will have a line at his door. However, I am saying that if there is money available, the Giants should use it rather than lose it. I expect the Giants to sign a low-to-mid level guy or two this year ala Kawika Mitchell.
Forget Trent Green and this hack Haggard from Pittsburgh. I could see Eugene Wilson replacing Gibril and I wouldn't put it past Reese to be comfortable with Gerris Wilkinson starting weak-side. The Giants rave about him. The Giants do need to create competition at LB and that's why many mock drafts have the Giants picking either Dan Connor from Penn State or Keith Rivers from USC to fill the LB void. That's IF these two guys are around.
Finally, I applaud Gerry Reese for showing restraint. Last year, we killed him for showing the same sanity. Let jokers like Al Davis or Jerry Jones w/ Leonard Davis pay a kings ransom for fools gold.
