Absolutely! That is how I look at this move, as a fan I took Chip Ganassi and his side companero Felix Sabates waste of Juan Pablo Montoya's seven years in NASCAR as a poke in my eye.
I can't speak for all Montoya's fans, but this fan will enjoy the 2014 INDY season for only one reason, Juan Pablo will have a great car and will beat the hell out of Chip Ganassi.
There will be nothing more enjoyable to a JPM fan than seeing a Chip Ganassi team sucking exhaust from Montoya's car, specially a car from Chip Ganassi's arch nemesis Mr. Roger Penske.
THAT MOMENT WILL BE TRULY PRICELESS !
I understand Juan Pablo will run some NASCAR races. I have a feeling, just guessing, he will be back to NASCAR in a third Penske cup car. I'm thinking 2015 season.
I see no other reason why he would turn down the Furniture Row deal specially when that team is running a RCR car. Juan Pablo appears to really like the way NASCAR allows him the time for his family, he likes it there.
I feel he will be back, but for now this is a great move.
I will personally miss NASCAR, I'm a working man so I really won't have the time to watch both series. I guess I'll see the summery on Sportscenter.
One thing I won't miss about NASCAR is some (to be clear-not all-) of the print and broadcasting media, they appear to be very cliquish or regional for lack of a better word. I did not get all the inside jokes, specially from the Fox crew, Darrell Waltrip and company.
Another thing that bothered me, they always talk to the same people, some side track reporters always interview the same drivers, a friend of mine always told me in jest "maybe that's his cousin" honestly I was beginning to think that was true.
There are 40 plus drivers in the world who do this week in and week out, I'm sure they got something to contribute to the broadcast. I just thought that was odd.
I have zero understanding of NASCAR's marketing goals, that is beyond my intellectual curiosity, but if they want to have a full house in those racing palaces they better figure out how to reach outside of their fan base.
As always this is a fans opinion and from what I understand everybody has one and I'm tankful for that
