I'm not saying its a sure thing. But if the Yankees lose tonight, thus falling 11 1/2 behind Boston, I think there is a good chance that tonight's game is Torre's last with the Pinstripes. The Yankees have a ton of excuses for why things aren't right. Some of them are legitimate. But let's be honest, a team like the Yankees should perservere.
Furthermore, it isn't just this year. For the last eight to ten years, the Yankees have had the pick of the market. When somebody is available, the Yankees basically decide if they want him or not. Every year the Yankees enter the regular season as the favorite. Every year, the Yankees basically underachieve make the playoffs and get bounced. If you dislike the Yankees as much as I do, it's a beautiful thing.
But if you are George Steinbrenner or even a Yankee fan, it gnaws at you. And if you are Steinbrenner you change things up. That is the way you operate. Certainly, someone who has been as loyal to you and as good for you as Joe Torre has been gets a little bit more consideration. But Torre got that last year when the Yanks were bounced by the Tigers. Many thought the Boss would bounce him them. He deferred.
Now 7 months have passed. And not much has changed. The Yankees continue to be performing to a level that is unacceptable to George. I think if they lose tonight it crosses the line and Steinbrenner makes the move before Roger Clemens returns.

I am a Sox fan, but I have a lot of respect for Joe Torre. Sorry, but I think he's a great coach. What's been going on is the players' fault, not Joe's. That team just hasn't been playing with heart, in my opinion. Yankees fans oughta stand up for this man and all he has done with, and for, their club.

We do and Steinbrenner knows it. He will be around alot longer than just tonight, which the Yankees will win anyway ;)

The ball rolls both ways. Joe got the credit when the Yanks were winning the Series four times, well the ball is rolling in the opposite direction now. He was getting a lot of credit when they were winning, but didn't hit a single home run, pitch to a batter or drive in a run. You look in the dugout and I do not see a motivated person there, maybe the rookies who do have something to prove. They need a collective buttkicking, but Joe doesn't work that way. But Giardi would do a fine job, I love Donny baseball but he comes across as Torre #2. The right time to send Joe away was after last post season, lets do it now, get it over with and get some fire on this team.

Yankee's Should let the man bow out on his terms. Let him resign honorably. Joe has earned that right.
Give him a front office position. Make him Cashman's Asst or something. Give him his due. He had earned it.
