Ok, this isn't about Lilacs, its about baseball. I thought I'd switch gears and talk about my Dodgers.  Spring training isn't going well as far as winning, with a 1-3 record, but spring training is more then just that.  It's about learning what each guy can do and what problems the team has.  Trying different things and seeing how guys perform in different situations. You want to see what some of the young guys can do and decide if they will make the team or be sent down to the minors.  One such guy is Delwyn Young.  He is 25 and a switch hitter, he hit .337 at Triple A last year and hit .383 with the big guys in limited action (19 games) during the Sept call-up. He is I believe out of options, so hope he does well, if they decide to send him down and he doesn't clear waivers the Dodgers could lose him. Also most of the starting pitchers only throw 2 innings.  It's about getting ready, not the score.  There is word that the Dodgers may be thinking about making a trade for Brandon Inge from Detroit.  I guess Joe Torre isn't convinced that either Garicaparra or LaRoche is ready to play full-time.  LaRoche hit only .226 1 Hr and 10 rbi's in 35 games.  I know Normar has had some injury problems, but not sure Inge is the answer. Nomar did hit .283, but his power numbers were way down.  Inge hit .236 14 Hr and 71 rbi's in 151 games.  On to other news. Jason Schmidt is coming off surgery and will probably not be ready for opening day.  Some think it will be May or June before he returns.  That's not good news, but we'll have to wait and see.  Schmidt could be a big boost if he comes back strong.
