Don't we have anything better to worry about?
We've got a war going on in Iraq and Afghanistan. We've got a genocide going on in Darfur. We've got starving kids all over the Third World, and we've got the AIDS virus ravaging the entire continent of Africa.
And all I keep hearing about is Michael Vick fighting some dogs.
I love dogs. Don't get me wrong. I have two of them. I do have a moral problem with using and torturing innocent dogs for entertainment purposes.
But this has gotten blown way out of proportion. It was on the front page (not even the sports page) of the Minneapolis newspaper. Vick has been absolutely crucified in the media. It's gotten so bad that another player(Clinton Portis) has been practically tarred and feathered for simply sticking up for Vick. There are bigger things going on around us, guys.
I bet a good portion of the people calling for Vick's head haven't voiced a single concern, spread any awareness, or even really know much about, what's going on in Darfur. 200,000 innocent civilians have been killed in the last four years, and over 2.5 million more displaced from their homes.
Makes 60 or so dogs seem less important, doesn't it? Amid all the uproar over man's best friend, we've forgotten about our fellow man.
I ask this: Everyone who's posted a comment on this site complaining about Mike Vick's dog fighting, please e-mail a Congressman and urge him to help do something about the Darfur crisis. It's really easy to do this. There are alot of Darfur websites that have a direct link to a Congressman's e-mail address.
Another rule: If you've ever gone fishing or hunting, or even bought fishing or hunting equipment, you can't complain about Michael Vick. You're killing innocent deer or fish. Michael Vick is malnourishing and harming innocent dogs. You're doing it for sport. Vick's doing it for entertainment. You don't care about the deer that was just trying to drink out of a lake, Vick doesn't care about his dogs.
What's the difference?
