These are my picks for the upcoming Div I-A College Football season. These picks are made without looking at team's schedules, so they are likely to change when the season gets closer.

     SEC                              ACC

    West                                Coastal

    LSU*                                  Virginia Tech*

   Auburn*                                Miami (FL)*

 Miss. State*                            Georgia Tech*

  Alabama*                                 Virginia*

  Ole Miss*                                 North Carolina

  Arkansas*                                   Duke

    East                                      Atlantic

  Florida*                                   Florida State*

 Georgia*                                     Clemson*

 South Carolina*                         Wake Forest*

  Tennessee*                              Boston College*

   Kentucky*                                   Maryland

  Vanderbilt                                     NC State

                                    ACC CHAMPION: Virginia Tech

ACC Coach of the Year: Randy Shannon, Miami

SEC CHAMPION: Florida

SEC Coach of the Year: Houston Nutt, Ole Miss

                  NOTES FROM PICKS

        1. Georgia will not live up to everyone's expectations. They will lose to Arizona State early in the year, but will finish the season will double digit wins.

      2. Ole Miss will be a suprise team this year. They will be at the top of the SEC West near the end of the year, but they will lose the rest of their conference games to fall to 5th.

     3. Florida State will also be a suprise team this year. With people doing everything but pushing Bobby Bowden out of his coaching job, Bowden will prove his worth with a remarkable year. Expect double digit wins.

    4. Boston College will struggle this year. With their star QB gone, they will have a hard time finding their leader. They will end the season at either 6-6 or 7-5.

    5. Miami will have a good season. They will rebound from their 5-7 season last year and contend for the ACC Coastal Division.

Ooh, gutsy call considering your allegiance. Be prepared to have the UGA homers hound you down. I picked ASU over UGA in a Pac 10 vs. SEC hypothetical showdown for the 2007 season, and I had one UGA fan give me an eyeful. I don't think that UGA will lose to ASU, even though it is very possible. Rudy doesn't have any returning OL, but that might be a good thing, and Ryan Torain is gone too, their quality RB. A loss to UF is possible considering the secondary will be much more solid and they finally have a RB.

UGA might pull a '07 LSU, but UGA would have to have one loss b/c we won't see the likes of '07 ever again probably. 2009 should be a good year for UGA also, but I want results in '08.

I think Alabama is the sleeper in the west for the SEC, and North Carolina will do well also. This is the second year for Saban and Davis. I like the Miami prediction too.

I would love to see Petrino go down, so your Arkansas prediciton delights me.

My question is how do you have Houston Nutt being the SEC coach of the year, but Ole Miss finishing 5th in the West?

I think that Ole Miss could contend for the SEC until late, and that they will get in a bowl game for the first time since Eli's senior year. That is why I think he will get the nod for Coach of the Year

I think you're mistaken about the outcome of the ASU/UGA game: given what took place in their bowl game against, I think ASU is particularly vulnerable to a team with a solid ground game, and any rational person would agree that UGA has a fantastic running game.
That said, it's entirely possible that UF wins the East, but I strongly feel that injuries will have more to do with that than anything else: given what we know about the teams (UGA ascendant, UF with a questionable defense that did nothing to improve), I feel that *logically*, you have to say that UGA is the favorite going into tWLOCP, at least initially.

Other than our differing opinions, I must compliment you: you certainly don't seem like an 8th grader in your diction or grammar. Keep it up and I'm certain you'll become a sports writer!
