Once again a congressman talks and hopefully no one listens. Rep Werner, NY, want the FBI to drop the investigation of Roger Clemens' possible perjury because the pitching great has suffered enough from the probe into steriods use. Does he also think Mr. McNamee has suffered enough and Clemens should drop his lawsuit against him. How about Marion Jones, who was sentenced to 6 months in prison fo perjury, not for PED use. As they say the cover-up and lying is worse. She was also stripped of her olympic medals. Hasn't she suffered enough? Did the FBI have better things to do back then? I'd say yes.
How about former NFL lineman Dana Stubblefield, has he suffered enough? He pled guilty to lying to FBI in the BALCO steriod case. He hasn't been sentenced yet, but could get up to 5 years.
How about Barry Bonds? I hate to sound like a broken record, but Bonds has probably suffered the most shame. He can't even find a job. I'm not a Bonds fan, but I'm a fan of justice and there is no difference between Bonds and Clemens, except that Clemens might be more liked and he is white.
I can't help but think that if the investigation of Clemens' perjury is dropped there will be cries of racism and they would be right. If two people commit the same crime (and perjury is a crime), they must be treated the same.
In closing, Yes Rep Weiner is correct in one thing, that is that the FBI probably should concentrate on other things, but congress is the ones that inserted themselves into the middle of the steriod case, now they must finish what they started, even if it doesn't benefit the public nothing they do ever benefits the public.
