In a classic case of bad timing, Sean Landeta, the last remaining NFL player to play in the Uber-Defunct USFL announced his retirement. Landeta, a 46 year old punter who played on the World Champion 1986 Giants, announced his retirement in front of a crowd of 4 family members and a couple of friends who dressed up in fedoras playing the role of reporters. Landeta joins Warren Sapp as players who had the misfortune of announcing the end of their careers at the time when the sports world was misty and agog over Brett Favre. Here's to fading into oblivion.
In other news, Sugar Ray Leonard held a press conference announcing he's still retired if anyone cares.
