The Stack is here on this Thursday and there is plenty of baseball and football news to talk about.  Week 4 kicks off with the 49ers and Rams so that is definitely something to be excited about.  Let's take a look and see what made "the stack" for today, Thursday, September 26:

Bucs bench Freeman

It seemed like only a couple of days ago Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano said that Josh Freeman was the team's starting quarterback and how he had so much faith in Freeman.  Oh wait!  That was two days ago.  My how 48 hours changes a lot.  The team has elected to bench Freeman now in place of rookie quarterback Mike Glennon.  Glennon will get the start Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals and then have the bye week to really prepare, a big reason according to Schiano as to why they are starting Glennon now.  Anyone could see this move coming though.  Freeman was not named a captain, he missed the team photo, the team had a players only meeting before the season even started and oh yeah, the Bucs are 0-3.  They're putting fun in dysfunctional.  The only saving grace for Tampa Bay is that they get a Cardinals team that is coming off of a bad 31-7 loss to the New Orleans Saints and kickoff is at 1 PM ET.  Glennon may very well be a good quarterback for Tampa Bay.  Maybe this will prove to be the right decision.  As of now though, the move screams of desperation by Schiano in order for him to try and keep his job and it means that Freeman's bags are already packed.  No idea if the Bucs can trade him or what they'll get for him, but Freeman is as good as gone in Tampa.  He needs a fresh start and he'll get it.  He just needs to rehabilitate his image a bit, because it has taken a hit the last few months.

Hunt for October update

Another postseason playoff spot was clinched last night as the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins 1-0 thanks to likely AL Cy Young winner Max Scherzer to win the AL Central.  Their pitching is really, really strong.

Two teams had their playoff hopes dashed last night (no not the Astros. They were out the minute they stepped on the field for opening day).  The New York Yankees lost to the Tampa Bay Rays, but were actually eliminated from postseason contention during their game after the Cleveland Indians won.  No postseason for the Yankees.  No postseason for the Kansas City Royals either.  They lost 6-0 to the Seattle Mariners.  The Royals are on the cusp of doing something.  Watch out for them next year.

The Indians won, the Texas Rangers won and the Tampa Bay Rays won so the AL wild card race doesn't change at all.  The Rays claim the first wild card spot currently while the Indians are a game back of them and have the second wild card spot.  The Rangers sit one game back.  This race will not be done until the last day of the regular season.

In the NL, the only race is the jockeying to see who will host the one-and-done game in the playoffs.  Cincinnati and Pittsburgh will be that matchup.  Both teams lost yesterday.  The Pirates are the top team right now.  The two teams play each other in Cincinnati for a three game series starting Friday.  Good baseball.

San Francisco 49ers @ St. Louis Rams 8:25 PM ET NFL Network

The Rams went 1-0-1 last year against the 49ers.  Do they have their number?  Perhaps.  Both teams have not looked very good in the last two weeks.  The 49ers are most concerning since they have been punched in the mouth each of the last two weeks.  What has happened to Colin Kaepernick?  No touchdowns for him the last two weeks.  What's going to change this week flying halfway across the country on a short week?  Probably not much.  Vernon Davis is questionable as is Patrick Willis so the 49ers will be down two key starters.  Yet, something in my gut tells me that the 49ers go into St. Louis and gets the job done tonight.  Then again, the Rams do have some talent on offense and have a physical defense.  They haven't played at home since week one.  Won't be shocked of the outcome.  Both teams can win this game.

Prediction: 49ers 20 Rams 16
